Ayew Nets Goal In Swansea’s Win Over Barnsley In Championship Playoff

Swansea will take a narrow advantage back to south Wales for the second leg of their Championship play-off semi-final with Barnsley thanks to Andre Ayew's fine individual goal.

Ayew gave the visitors the lead before the break when he cut inside from the right and curled an unstoppable left-footed effort past home goalkeeper Bradley Collins.

The Ghanaian also saw a late effort charged down as he looked to cut in from the right once more and fellow Swans forward Jamal Lowe blasted wide after drifting in from the other flank.

Roared on vociferously by 4,000 home fans, the Tykes made a great start to the second half but could not find the breakthrough they needed as Swans goalkeeper Freddie Woodman made a smart low save from substitute Carlton Morris and denied Callum Brittain on the rebound.

Morris nearly grabbed an injury-time equaliser but saw his flick from Cauley Woodrow's corner come back off the crossbar.

The pair meet again at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday with a place in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on 29 May on the line.

Former England striker Alan Shearer and ex-France forward Thierry Henry became the first players announced into the Premier League Hall of Fame last month.

The honour recognises players who have demonstrated an exceptional record of on-pitch success and have made important contributions in the division since its creation in 1992.

Bournemouth Earn First Leg Advantage Over Brentford In Championship Playoff

Bournemouth manager Jonathan Woodgate knows his side "still have it all to do" to overcome Brentford in the Championship play-off semi-final despite winning the first leg 1-0.

Arnaut Danjuma scored the only goal early in the second half in front of a crowd of around 2,000 home fans, but Brentford missed a glorious chance to level through Bryan Mbeumo.

The Cherries created the bulk of the chances in the first leg, but could have found themselves going into Saturday's return leg all square had Mbeumo not poked narrowly wide from six yards out with the goal gaping.

Emiliano Marcondes was also denied by a smart block from Asmir Begovic after coming off the bench.

Danjuma almost added a second goal late on for Bournemouth from a free-kick only for David Raya to palm it wide.

Asisat Oshoala Makes History As The First African And Nigerian To Win Women’s Champions League Title

Nine games, four goals, Oshoala helped Barcelona to win the 2021 Women’s Champions League title.

Asisat Oshoala has made history as the first African and Nigeria to win the Women’s Champions League title.

Oshoala’s Barcelona Femeni on Sunday, May 16, 2021, beat Chelsea Women 4-0 to win the 2021 Champions League title.

A first half-trashing was what Barcelona needed to take the title and bounce back from their loss in 2019 final to Lyon.

Oshoala made an appearance in the game, coming on in the 71st minute as Barcelona closed out the game to secure the Champions League title.

He scored four goals, one in the round of 32 against PSV, another in the next round and two clutch goals in the quarterfinals against Manchester City.

Her first goal against Manchester City came in the first leg of the quarterfinal, opening the scoring in that game with a fine finish just the edge of the penalty area.

She was good in that game and caused lots of problems for the Manchester City defence.

In the second leg away at Manchester, she scored Barcelona’s only goal in a 2-1 loss. It was a simple sitter from a square play to give Barcelona a goal to calm nerves.

She was also excellent in that game, using her pace to trouble the opposition defence and was unlucky not to score more than one goal.

This Champions League title adds to the forward’s several club trophies. She now has 10 titles in her club career, making her the most successful player in Nigerian women’s football history.

Aside from being the first African and Nigerian to win the title, she also made history in the 2019 final as the first African and Nigerian to score in a Champions League final.

She has the chance to add another title with Barcelona still in the race for the Copa de la Reina and set to play Madrid CFF in the semifinals.

The Copa de la Reina also gives Oshoala and Barcelona an opportunity for a historic treble, having already won the Spanish league and Champions League titles this season.
