Chelsea Secure Top Four Finish Despite Defeat At Villa

Chelsea pipped Leicester to a spot in next season's Champions League despite losing to Aston Villa on the final day of the Premier League season.

The Blues had started the day in third spot, knowing victory over their mid-table opponents would guarantee a place in the group stage of Europe's prestigious knockout club competition.

Thomas Tuchel's side carved out the better chances but fell behind when Bertrand Traore's attempt went in off the underside of the crossbar following Matt Targett's corner.

It went from bad to worse for Chelsea when Edouard Mendy was injured, making him a doubt for next Saturday's Champions League final with Manchester City.

Substitute keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga was beaten by Anwar El Ghazi's second-half penalty after former Chelsea player Traore was fouled by Jorginho, before Ben Chilwell pulled one back for the visitors from close range.

Chelsea finished the game with 10 men after captain Cesar Azpilicueta's straight red card for a foul on Jack Grealish, but Leicester's home defeat by Tottenham means Tuchel's side finish the season in fourth on 67 points - one more than fifth-placed Leicester.

Juventus Win At Bologna To Secure Champions League Spot

Juventus secured their place in next season's Champions League with a final-day victory over Bologna in Serie A.

Andrea Pirlo's side began the day fifth but took advantage of Napoli's 1-1 draw with Verona to finish fourth.

Juve cruised into a 3-0 half-time lead through goals by Federico Chiesa, Alvaro Morata and Adrien Rabiot.

Spaniard Morata scored his second shortly after the restart, before Riccardo Orsolini grabbed a late consolation for the hosts.

Elsewhere, AC Milan beat Atalanta - who had already sealed a top-four finish - to finish above their opponents in second place and book their Champions League spot.

Phil Mickelson Becomes Oldest Major Winner

Phil Mickelson became the oldest man to win a major title as he claimed the US PGA Championship at Kiawah Island amid extraordinary scenes as thousands of fans swarmed on to the final fairway to witness the winning moment.

It was a throwback victory for 50-year-old Mickelson and a reminder of what sport has been missing in the absence of crowds during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Spectators swamped the American as he marched up to the 18th green on his way to clinching a sixth major title, eight years after his last.

"It was quite unnerving, but exceptionally awesome. I don't think I've ever experienced anything like that before," said Mickelson, who won on six under par at the Ocean Course after a closing one-over-par 73.

He finished two clear of fellow American Brooks Koepka, who closed with a 74, and South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen, who signed for a 73.

Mickelson takes the record of oldest major winner from Julius Boros, who won this title in 1968 at the age of 48, and also joins England's Nick Faldo and American Lee Trevino as a six-time major winner. Only 11 players have won more.

Sergio Aguero: From ‘Worst Trainer In The World’ To Man City ‘Icon’

Asked to describe Sergio Aguero in one word, Jermaine Jenas, Micah Richards and Nedum Onuoha provide answers that say it all.

He has five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, six League Cup triumphs and, on 29 May, has the chance to add a Champions League medal to his collection.

His individual numbers are possibly even more impressive. He is City's all-time leading goalscorer. He has the best minutes-to-goals ratio in Premier League history. He has more Premier League hat-tricks than anyone else. He is the top overseas goal scorer in league history. And he is fourth in the Premier League all-time scorers list.

Now, with this season confirmed as his last at the club, former City team-mates Richards and Onuoha join ex-Tottenham and England midfielder Jermaine Jenas - and a few others - on a BBC Radio 5 Live special to discuss Aguero's impact and the legacy he is leaving behind.

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards:From the moment he came through the door, you are in awe. You have that feeling of 'wow'. The only other time I had that was when Robinho came through the door. For us growing up, Shaun Goater or Nicolas Anelka was a big thing - so when Aguero comes through the door, you can't believe this is happening.

He was the worst trainer in the history of training. He had that laid-back style. Aguero would just walk around. Sometimes he wouldn't even have his boots tied up. But the moment it came to the finishing, it was game over. I thought he was going to be sensational but when I trained with him I thought 'have we made a mistake here?' I thought Tevez was better - but then he makes his debut…

The fans just erupted when he came on and it was like a genuine superstar here. You can't write it and from them I knew we had signed a player.

I was there for four years with him. With Aguero, you don't associate him with being a superstar in terms of how he was off the pitch. He was the most humble person ever.

"King". "Magical". "Inspirational".
