France Claim Comfortable Victory Over Wales

Neco Williams' early red card meant Wales had to toil for more than an hour with 10 men as they were beaten 3-0 by France in their first friendly in preparation for Euro 2020.

The visitors' already daunting task of facing the world champions on their own turf in Nice was made even more onerous when Liverpool youngster Williams was sent off just 25 minutes into the match, after a VAR check deemed his handball had illegally impeded a goal-bound effort from Karim Benzema.

Benzema, making his first international appearance for almost six years, had his penalty saved by Danny Ward, who then did well minutes later to keep out Adrien Rabiot's deflected shot before Kylian Mbappe scored on the rebound.

Antoine Griezmann curled in a beautiful second goal early into the second half and substitute Ousmane Dembele struck France's third after Benzema had hit the post.

Wales had been looking for a thorough workout in their first friendly in preparation for Euro 2020, and they certainly got one as they were forced to play 65 minutes a man down against a near full-strength French side.

Barcelona Sign Defender Emerson Royal From Real Sociedad

Barcelona have made their third signing of the week with Brazil defender Emerson Royal joining from Real Betis.

Emerson, 22, initially joined Barcelona from Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro in January 2019 in a three-way deal also involving Betis, which saw the full-back join the Andalusian club on loan.

Barca have now exercised their option to bring Emerson back to the Nou Camp.

The club have already agreed deals to sign Manchester City duo SERGIO AGUERO and ERIC GARCIA  this week.

Argentina striker Aguero and Spain centre-back Garcia will join Ronald Koeman's side on a free transfer when their City contracts expire at the end of this month.

Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has also been strongly linked with a free transfer move to the Catalan club.

Emerson made 79 appearances in all competitions for Betis, scoring five goals and providing 10 assists. He played more minutes than any other Betis player last season as Manuel Pellegrini's side finished sixth in La Liga to qualify for the Europa League.

He has represented Brazil at Under-20 and Under-23 level before winning his first senior cap in November 2019.

Medvedev Fights Back To Reach French Open Third Round

Second seed Daniil Medvedev's uneasy relationship with clay continued to improve as he beat American Tommy Paul to reach the French Open third round.

The 25-year-old Russian earned his first career win at Roland Garros in round one and backed that up by beating Paul in a 3-6 6-1 6-4 6-3 comeback.

Fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas and sixth seed Alexander Zverev both progressed on Wednesday with straight-set wins.

Medvedev, Tsitsipas and Zverev are all in the same half of the men's draw.

The trio, each aiming for a first Grand Slam title, are in the opposite side to Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, who have 58 majors between them.

KASU Students Block Main Road Over Increase In Tuition Fees

We move to Kaduna state where students of the Kaduna State University blocked the main road leading to the Government House in Kaduna, the state capital in protest over an increase in their tuition fees.

The state-owned tertiary institution recently announced an increase of its annual school fee of N26,000 by almost 600%.

According to the proposed new tuition fees, indigenous students studying social science courses are to pay about N150,000 while their counterparts in medicine and other science courses will pay between N170,000 and above as annual fees.

In reaction to this, the students blocked the road leading to the Kaduna State government house displaying placards with various inscriptions and chanting songs of solidarity.

They, therefore, demanded a reversal of tuition fees.

They called on the State Governor Nasir El-Rufai whose policy is to ensure that children of common people are given access to Education to intervene.

The Kaduna State University has about 19,000 students population, out of which close to 17,000 of them are indigenes.
