Georginio Wijnaldum Completes PSG Switch

Georginio Wijnaldum has signed a three-year deal with Paris St-Germain after leaving Liverpool on a free transfer.

The Netherlands midfielder, 30, opted against signing a new contract at Anfield and moves to the French capital after being linked with Barcelona.

"I'm joining one of the best squads in Europe and I want to bring all my desire and commitment to this ambitious project," Wijnaldum said.

Wijnaldum joined Liverpool from Newcastle United for £25m in 2016.

PSG are understood to have made a better offer than Barca with manager Mauricio Pochettino's presence also thought to have been a factor in Wijnaldum's decision.

The former Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven midfielder made 237 appearances for the Reds, helping Jurgen Klopp's side win the Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League a year later.

Premier League Var To Use Thicker Lines For Offside Calls

Premier League video assistant referees are set to use 'thicker lines' in games next season to determine marginal decisions.

An agreement to use thicker lines followed a presentation by Professional Game Match Officials Limited [PGMOL] referees' chief Mike Riley to clubs at their annual general meeting on Thursday.

The PGMOL hopes the change will give the benefit back to the attacking team after Premier League clubs gave feedback in a VAR survey last season

It is not yet known whether thicker lines for offside will be used by VARs at FA Cup ties next season.

The International Football Association Board [IFAB] - football's lawmakers - does not specify a maximum thickness of lines, under the laws of the game.

FIFA, which has operational control of VAR, trialled semi-automated offside technology at the Club World Cup in 2019 in Qatar.
