Manchester City Winger Set for Surgery in Spain After Leg Fracture

Oscar Bobb is set to travel to Barcelona, Spain, for surgery on a fractured leg, as reported by Manchester Evening News. The Manchester City winger, who impressed during the pre-season with two goals and four assists, will miss the start of the Premier League season due to the injury.

The 20-year-old suffered the injury in a training session this week. While there is hope that his recovery might take as little as three months, the exact duration will be determined after surgery with the City’s trusted doctor, Dr. Ramon Cugat, in Barcelona. Only after the procedure and initial recovery assessment will the club’s medical team be able to accurately predict how long Bobb will be out of action.

The injury raises the question of whether Manchester City will enter the transfer market for an attacking replacement. Although Julian Alvarez has moved to Atletico Madrid, City still have numerous options for their flanks and midfield, including Savinho, Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Kevin De Bruyne, and James McAtee. A decision on a replacement has not yet been made.

Sandro Tonali’s Ban Lifted, Cleared for Newcastle Comeback

According to a statement shared by Fabrizio Romano on X, Newcastle has announced that Sandro Tonali has been cleared to rejoin the squad for the upcoming season starting August 28, 2024. The Federazione Italiana Giuoco Calcio confirmed that Tonali's ban will end on August 27, allowing him to return to action the following day.

However, the exact timing of Tonali's return remains uncertain, as Newcastle has a Carabao Cup second-round match against Nottingham Forest that week, which could be scheduled for either Tuesday or Wednesday. If the game is played on Tuesday, Tonali will be ineligible, but he could play if it's held on Wednesday.

Tonali's first Premier League match back is expected to be against Tottenham Hotspur at St James' Park on September 1. The midfielder has been banned from football since October 2023 but has continued training with Newcastle’s first team. He will miss Newcastle's opening two Premier League games against Southampton and AFC Bournemouth before being available for the Spurs match.

Minister Vows Accountability for Those Responsible for Poor Olympics Performance

Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, has warned that government officials could lose their positions if investigations reveal they played a role in Nigeria's lack of medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Speaking on a monitored program, Enoh emphasized that all issues from the games would be thoroughly examined.

"I will engage and interrogate all of these matters," Enoh stated. "You don't fire without investigating. I've made it clear that I won't let these issues go unaddressed; I will tackle them one by one."

When asked if there would be consequences, Enoh responded, "If that's what it takes—if my findings show that individuals are responsible for the negative outcomes we experienced at the Olympics—then yes, heads will roll."

He also called for comprehensive reforms within the country's sporting federations to improve sports development. Apologizing to Nigerians for the disappointing performance in Paris, Enoh criticized the leadership of the federations and stressed the importance of establishing strong systems and structures to ensure Nigeria fields its best athletes and wins medals in future games.

"I've consistently said that our federations need reform," he added.

“Chelsea Fans Will See Him Soon”- Mikel Obi Provides Update on Osimhen’s Future

Former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi has revealed that both he and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba are actively trying to persuade Victor Osimhen to join Chelsea from Napoli. Osimhen, who has a €130 million release clause in his contract, is widely expected to leave Italy this summer.

The 25-year-old striker has been linked to a potential deal that could involve Romelu Lukaku moving in the opposite direction. According to Mikel Obi, Osimhen has a strong interest in Chelsea, and fans might see him don the blue jersey very soon.

Mikel stated, “We need a player who can finish and score goals—someone who can tap in those crucial chances. Victor Osimhen has the qualities to be Chelsea's Erling Haaland. I’m hopeful that Chelsea fans will soon see him at the club. I’ll be sure to send him messages and calls, pushing Chelsea as his top priority!"

He added that Didier Drogba is also in communication with Osimhen, sharing his own experiences and emphasizing the significance of the club. “We all want to see Victor come to Chelsea,” Mikel concluded.
