Lookman Included In Serie A’s Team Of The Week

Ademola Lookman has secured a spot in the latest Serie A Team of the Week, marking the final selection for the season.

The roster, compiled by whoscored.com and shared on their X platform, highlights Lookman's standout performance for Atalanta. He stands as the lone representative from Atalanta in the lineup, which also features AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, as well as Juventus duo Alex Sandro and Federico Chiesa.

Lookman's inclusion stems from his impressive display in Atalanta's 3-0 victory over Torino in their last league fixture of the season. The forward, known for his hat-trick heroics in the Europa League final, contributed one goal to the team's comfortable triumph.

Finishing the 2023/24 league campaign with 10 goals and six assists in 30 appearances, Lookman showcased consistent performance throughout the season. Additionally, he amassed 16 goals and provided seven assists across 44 matches in all competitions.

Looking ahead, Lookman gears up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic scheduled for June. With the Super Eagles currently in third place in Group C with two points after two matches, Lookman aims to contribute to Nigeria's advancement in the qualifiers.

Chelsea Interested in Enzo Maresca for Managerial Role

According to British media sources, Chelsea is reportedly in discussions to appoint Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca as their new head coach.

The Italian, who previously served as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City, has successfully guided Leicester back to the Premier League after their relegation a year ago.

Maresca’s football style has caught the attention of Chelsea executives, with Sky Sports reporting on Monday that the Blues have requested permission from Leicester to speak directly with Maresca, who is considered Chelsea’s top choice. This move comes as Chelsea seeks a new manager following their split with Mauricio Pochettino.

Man Utd Stun Man City with FA Cup Final Triumph

Manchester United concluded a disappointing season on a high note as Erik ten Hag, amidst speculation about his future, led the team to a surprising FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. The Dutchman's job was under scrutiny following reports suggesting he might be dismissed regardless of the match's outcome. However, United put the rumors aside as young talents Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo scored to secure a 2-1 win, despite a late goal from City's substitute Jeremy Doku.

This win marked Ten Hag's second trophy in two seasons, but it remains to be seen if this and Europa League qualification will satisfy the ambitious Ineos group, especially after United finished eighth in the league. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Joel Glazer, and Avram Glazer were present at Wembley and were likely impressed by the team's performance and Ten Hag's strategy.

Most expected City to achieve a second consecutive domestic double after winning their fourth straight top-flight title, but they seemed off form. United, on the other hand, were focused and prepared, with Garnacho exploiting a defensive mistake to give them a surprising lead in the 30th minute. Mainoo extended the lead before halftime, capitalizing on a team move, despite City's Erling Haaland hitting the bar during a phase of pressure.

Andre Onana allowed a late goal from Doku, creating some tension, but United held on for the win. This victory concluded a challenging season marked by injuries, with Ten Hag hoping to avoid the fate of Louis van Gaal, who was sacked after winning the FA Cup in 2016. The match started energetically, with Marcus Rashford's early run leading to a City counterattack, but no penalty was given after Haaland went down in the box.

United maintained their defensive shape while pressing City effectively. City, looking unlike the team that had just clinched the title, gifted United a goal in the 30th minute after a defensive error by Josko Gvardiol, which Garnacho capitalized on. Rashford's goal was disallowed for offside shortly after, but Mainoo soon scored, making it 2-0. City tried to respond with substitutions at halftime, but Haaland's attempt hit the bar, and Onana made crucial saves to keep United ahead. Despite late pressure and Doku's goal, United celebrated a memorable victory at the final whistle.

Cole Palmer Wins PFA Premier League 23/24 Fans Player Of The Year

Premier League fans have voiced their choice, crowning Chelsea's Cole Palmer as the 2023/24 Player of the Year. Palmer's remarkable tally of 27 goals across all competitions, with 22 in the Premier League alone, solidified his standing as a force to be reckoned with on the pitch, following his £45 million transfer from Manchester City to Chelsea in the summer.

While his former teammate Phil Foden has already clinched the Football Writers' Player of the Year and the official Premier League award, Palmer's triumph in the fans' vote adds another feather to his cap, complementing his official Premier League Young Player of the Year honor.
