Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has been named the best La Liga player for the 2023/2024 season at the awards gala in Sardinia.

The former Dortmund star has been a standout in his debut season with Real, scoring 19 goals to help his team win the League.

The award is decided by votes from fans, club captains, and a committee of experts.

Bellingham edged out finalists Kubo (Real Sociedad), Griezmann (Atlético de Madrid), Dovbyk (Girona), Kirian (UD Las Palmas), Lewandowski (Barcelona), Vinicius Jr. (Real Madrid), Isco (Real Betis), Aleix García (Girona), and Sorloth (Villarreal).

Although Bellingham could not attend the gala, he sent this message: “Thank you for this award, it is an honor to receive it. Sorry for not coming because I’m preparing for the Champions League final. I dedicate it to my teammates, the coaching staff, and most importantly, to the fans of the best club in the world. It is a pleasure every time I play for this team. Go Madrid!”.

Usyk, Fury Rematch Confirmed For December 21 In Riyadh

Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, has confirmed a rematch between undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury, set for December 21 in Riyadh.

The last encounter between the two fighters saw Usyk defeat Fury by a split decision on May 18, becoming the first undisputed champion of the four-belt era. With this victory, Usyk now holds the IBF, WBO, WBA, and WBC titles, making him the first unified heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999.

However, Alalshikh noted on his official X handle on Wednesday that the venue for the rematch has yet to be finalized. "The world will watch another historical fight again," Alalshikh added on X. "Our commitment to boxing fans continues. We hope you enjoy it."

This contest will give Briton Fury, 35, the chance to avenge his first career defeat in his 16-year professional tenure against Usyk. It is unlikely that all four belts will be on the line in the rematch, as the IBF plans to strip Usyk of his title for not facing its mandatory challenger next.

Barcelona Confirms Hansi Flick Becomes The New Manager

Barcelona has announced Hansi Flick as their new head coach, taking over from Xavi Hernandez. Flick, previously associated with Bayern Munich and the German national team, has inked a two-year deal with the club. The 59-year-old boasts consecutive Bundesliga titles with Bayern and a UEFA Champions League victory, forming part of an illustrious treble.

Xavi, a former Barcelona captain, was relieved of his managerial duties at the conclusion of the 2023–24 season after initially retracting his decision to depart the club in the summer. Barcelona finished as runners-up in La Liga, trailing champions Real Madrid by 10 points, and were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals by Paris Saint-Germain.

Barcelona confirmed Flick's appointment with a two-year contract for the 2024/25 season. An excerpt from the official statement reads: "FC Barcelona and Hansi Flick have agreed for the German to lead the men's first team until June 30, 2026. The new coach signed his contract at the club's headquarters in the presence of president Joan Laporta, first vice-president for sports Rafa Yuste, and sports director Anderson Luís de Souza, Deco."

With a coaching career spanning 28 years, the 59-year-old has managed the German national team, Bayern Munich, and TSG Hoffenheim. Flick also served as sporting director for the German Football Association from 2014 to 2017. Following UEFA Euro 2020 [in 2021], where Germany was eliminated by hosts England in the round of 16, Flick took over the reins of the national team. However, Germany exited the 2022 Qatar World Cup group stages for the second successive campaign under his tenure, leading to his dismissal after a 4-1 loss to Japan. Flick managed just one win in six matches following Germany's disappointing World Cup campaign.

Before his stint with the national team, Flick returned to Bayern in 2019 and managed the club he once played for between 1985 and 1990. He guided Bayern to consecutive Bundesliga titles and secured their sixth Champions League trophy during his tenure, along with other accolades including the DFB-Pokal, DFL-Supercup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.
