Euro 2024: Playing with a Mask Makes Me Uncomfortable – Mbappe

French star Kylian Mbappe has expressed his discomfort playing while wearing a mask.

Ahead of today’s Round of 16 clash against Belgium in Euro 2024, the Real Madrid player, who is recovering from a broken nose, shared his struggles with the mask. "I didn’t think it would be this bad, but playing with a mask is horrible," he admitted.

Mbappe explained, "I've had to change the mask multiple times because something was always off. It’s really difficult—it limits your vision, and sweat gets trapped, so you have to take it off to let it run away. As soon as I can take it off, I will, but I don’t have a choice for now. That’s how my tournament will be. I can only play like this."

Despite the inconvenience, Mbappe acknowledged the necessity of the mask. "It is really annoying, but I have to just say thanks to the mask."

Italian Coach Landi Expresses Interest in Eagles Coaching Position

Italian coach Roberto Landi recently expressed keen interest in the vacant coaching position for the Super Eagles, emphasizing that coaching the Nigerian national team is a coveted dream for any coach. He highlighted Nigeria's abundance of talent and the passionate football culture among Nigerians as compelling reasons for aspiring to lead the team.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is currently seeking a foreign technical adviser following the team's disappointing performance in the 2026 World Cup qualification series. This led to the resignation of former international Finidi George after a brief tenure, succeeding Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, who departed after guiding the team to the final of the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

Despite the NFF denying talks with AFCON-winning coach Herve Renard, several names, including Antonio Conceicao, Luis Fernandez, Joaquin Caparros, Didier Six, and Miguel Herrera, have been linked to the position. Landi believes he possesses the credentials to lead the Super Eagles and expressed confidence in his ability to make a significant impact.

In an interview, Landi affirmed his ambition, stating, "It’s a dream for a coach to manage a prestigious national team like Nigeria. If you ask Massimiliano Allegri and other Serie A coaches, coaching Nigeria represents a dream opportunity because you would be representing more than 200 million people and a nation that ranks among the top 20 footballing powers globally, irrespective of FIFA rankings."

Liverpool Compete with Man Utd for Lookman

Liverpool and Manchester United are set to compete for Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman this summer. Lookman has been impressive at Atalanta since joining two seasons ago, registering 32 goals and 18 assists in 78 appearances. He particularly stood out after scoring a hattrick in Atalanta's 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Europa League final last season.

Rumors suggest Lookman is eyeing a return to the English Premier League, two years after leaving Leicester City. According to Caught Offside, both Manchester United and Liverpool are interested in signing him this summer. Liverpool, under new coach Arne Slot, seeks to bolster their attacking options, while Manchester United needs more quality on the wings, and Lookman's experience and talent could be a valuable addition.

Lookman is valued at €40 million according to Transfermarkt, but Atalanta might demand up to €51 million for the deal. His Premier League experience makes him an attractive prospect for both clubs, though each faces challenge. Liverpool's new coach Arne Slot is under pressure to replicate Jurgen Klopp's success, and Lookman might find limited playing time due to the team's depth. Manchester United, despite offering potentially more playing time due to the inconsistencies of players like Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, is currently struggling with inconsistency and recent failed transfers.

Lookman could benefit from the stability at Liverpool, a club where he could stay for an extended period. However, at Manchester United, he might enjoy more playing time, though the club's instability could pose a risk.

Osimhen’s Attitude and Character Deter Potential Suitors

Former Nigeria striker Peter Ijeh believes potential suitors are avoiding Victor Osimhen due to his attitude and character. In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Ijeh, who spent much of his career in Scandinavia, noted that Europe is a small community where attitude and character are key factors, something he feels Osimhen doesn't grasp.

"How I wish he understood that Europe is a small community that takes attitude and character as keys because it is directly influenced by children, and at the same time, they are notorious for double standards. Even Lagos is bigger than six countries, so it is more or less a community where everybody knows everybody," Ijeh remarked, reflecting on Osimhen’s recent verbal conflict with former Super Eagles coach Finidi George.

Osimhen has indicated that he has played his last match for Napoli, expressing his intention to leave the Diego Maradona Stadium at the end of last season. Napoli is open to selling him, but his £100 million release clause has been a significant obstacle. The club recently reduced the release clause to £85 million, attracting interest from Manchester United. However, the Red Devils, like Chelsea and Arsenal, have also backed out and are now in talks with Alvaro Morata.

Napoli even offered Osimhen to Manchester United in exchange for Mason Greenwood plus cash. Meanwhile, new Napoli coach Antonio Conte has reportedly informed Osimhen that he will not be the main striker next season.
