Canelo Alvarez Dominates Berlanga to Retain Super-Middleweight Titles

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez solidified his status as the unified super-middleweight world champion with a commanding unanimous decision victory over Edgar Berlanga on Saturday night.

In front of more than 20,000 fans at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the Mexican superstar knocked Berlanga down in the third round and controlled the fight from start to finish. The victory marked Alvarez’s fifth consecutive win and came as part of Mexico’s Independence Day celebrations.

The judges scored the bout 118-109 twice and 117-110, all in favor of Alvarez, allowing him to retain his WBA, WBC, and WBO titles. Alvarez, now 34, improved his record to 62-2-2, while the previously undefeated Berlanga, 27, suffered his first career loss, bringing his record to 22-1.

“I performed well,” Alvarez said after the fight. “People used to say I fought older opponents, but now I’ve faced younger ones. They always have something to say. But I’m the best fighter in the world, and it’s an honor to represent my country.”

Alvarez’s victory came after he opted to fight Berlanga rather than IBF mandatory challenger William Scull, a decision that led to him being stripped of the IBF title in July.

From the outset, Alvarez pressured Berlanga, landing a sharp right in the third round followed by a powerful left hook that sent his opponent to the canvas. Throughout the fight, Alvarez continued to punish Berlanga with vicious body shots and a hard right in the ninth round that shook the challenger.

Berlanga remained defiant, even taunting Alvarez as the 12th round began, but was unable to find the knockout punch he had predicted.

Messi Shines on Injury Comeback with Two Quick Goals In Inter Miami Victory

Lionel Messi made a triumphant return from injury, scoring twice and providing an assist to lead Inter Miami to a 3-1 victory over Philadelphia Union.

The Argentine World Cup winner had been sidelined since July after suffering an ankle injury during his nation’s Copa America triumph against Colombia. This absence saw him miss out on Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers and eight matches for Inter Miami, despite their strong position at the top of the MLS Eastern Conference.

In his first full 90-minute appearance in three months, the 37-year-old ex-Barcelona legend wasted no time making an impact. Though Philadelphia struck early with a goal from Mikael Uhre just 58 seconds into the game, Messi equalized in the 26th minute. After a precise pass from Luis Suarez, Messi expertly dribbled past a defender before firing the ball into the net.

Just four minutes later, Messi scored again, this time assisted by another former Barcelona teammate, Jordi Alba. Messi rounded off his stellar performance by setting up Suarez for Miami’s third goal during stoppage time, securing the win.

Following the game, Messi, who now boasts 14 goals in 13 matches this season, admitted he felt the effects of his return: “I’m a little tired, but I was eager to get back on the field after such a long time away.”

Haaland Brace Powers Man City to 2-1 Comeback Victory Over Brentford

Manchester City continued their perfect start to the Premier League season with a 2-1 win over Brentford on Saturday, thanks to two goals from Erling Haaland. Despite an early shock, City managed to turn the game around at the Etihad Stadium.

Brentford stunned the home crowd by scoring the fastest goal of the season just 22 seconds after kickoff, with Yoane Wissa finding the back of the net to give the visitors a dream start. However, City quickly regrouped, and Haaland leveled the score in the 19th minute with a sharp finish from a tight angle, making the most of only his second touch of the match.

The Norwegian striker struck again to put City ahead, outmuscling defender Ethan Pinnock and coolly chipping the ball past goalkeeper Mark Flekken in the 58th minute, taking his season tally to nine goals.

Haaland came close to completing a hat-trick and making Premier League history by scoring three consecutive hat-tricks, but Brentford’s keeper Flekken denied him multiple times. Despite those missed chances, City held firm and secured all three points, maintaining their flawless start to the campaign.

Nottingham Forest Stun Liverpool With Historic 1-0 Victory at Anfield

  1. Nottingham Forest pulled off a stunning 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, marking their first win at the iconic stadium since 1969. Substitute Callum Hudson-Odoi’s brilliant second-half strike sealed the shock result, leaving the Reds frustrated and their home fans in disbelief.

Liverpool had control of the first half, with Luis Diaz coming closest to scoring in the 17th minute when his powerful shot rattled the post. However, despite their dominance, the Reds struggled to find a finishing touch as miscommunication and a lack of cohesion cost them multiple chances.

Forest capitalized on Liverpool’s inefficiency in the 72nd minute when Anthony Elanga delivered a superb crossfield pass to Hudson-Odoi. The winger cut inside and unleashed a curling effort into the top corner, beating Alisson to secure the win.

Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo’s tactical approach proved effective, but it was his timely substitutions that tipped the balance in his side’s favor, sealing one of the biggest upsets of the Premier League season.
