France Captain Mbappe Admits, ‘We Didn’t Do Enough’

France captain Kylian Mbappe expressed his disappointment after his team’s 2-1 semi-final defeat to Spain, acknowledging that they "didn't do enough" at Euro 2024. Speaking to reporters, Mbappe admitted, “They played better than us, they deserved to go to the final, and we are going home.”

Mbappe assisted Randal Kolo Muani’s goal in the ninth minute, but Spain quickly responded with two goals in four minutes to take the lead midway through the first half. Reflecting on the match, Mbappe said, “I had the ambition of becoming European champion. I had the goal of having a good Euros. I did neither. It’s a disappointment.”

France’s overall performance in the tournament saw them score just four goals, with Mbappe’s only goal coming from a penalty. This contrasted sharply with his prolific eight-goal tally during France’s run to the World Cup final in Qatar.

Mbappe had a late opportunity to equalize when he cut inside from the left flank but missed the target, blasting the ball over the bar. “I got past the defender and it went well. Afterward, I thought I just had to score or at the very least get it on target. It went over the bar. That’s the harsh reality of football. 2-1 and we’re going home.”

Throughout the tournament, Mbappe had been playing with a protective mask after breaking his nose in the opening match against Austria. However, he removed it for the semi-final, saying he was "fed up" with it. “I couldn’t see well with it. I spoke to the doctor to see if I could play without it. He told me to decide a man. And there you go, I played without it and I don’t regret it.”

Manchester United and Real Madrid Submit Offers for Lille’s Leny Yoro

According to Foot Mercato, despite widespread interest from clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool, only Real Madrid and Manchester United have made official offers for Lille OSC's young center-back, Leny Yoro (18). The Spanish giants submitted a single proposal of €20 million, which is reportedly far below Lille’s valuation. Real Madrid is negotiating firmly, as Yoro has one year left on his contract and has expressed a strong desire to join them. Lille is frustrated by this, hoping for a bidding war instead.

Meanwhile, Manchester United has offered Lille €60 million, including bonuses, aligning more closely with the club’s expectations and attempting to persuade Yoro away from his preferred destination.

OGC Nice’s Khephren Thuram Set For Juventus Medical

According to Fabrizio Romano, Khéphren Thuram is set to undergo his medical with Juventus on Tuesday, finalizing his move to the Serie A club. The transfer of the 23-year-old OGC Nice midfielder is nearly complete, with only formalities remaining.

Thuram had initially been selected to participate in this summer’s Olympics, but Thierry Henry revealed last week that he had been dropped from the squad at the request of Juventus. With all agreements in place, Thuram will sign a five-year contract with Juventus. Nice will receive around €20 million for the midfielder, plus an additional €5 million in add-ons.

The final step for Thuram is the medical examination, which Romano reports will take place on Tuesday. Thuram is expected to arrive in Turin shortly to complete the move.

Nice has already secured Thuram’s replacement, signing Tanguy Ndombélé on a free transfer following the termination of his contract with Tottenham Hotspur.
