Super Eagles Drop Again In FIFA Ranking

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have slipped once again in the latest men's rankings released by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) on Thursday.

The three-time African champions dropped from 38th to 39th position. This follows a significant drop from the 30th to 38th position in last month's FIFA rankings.

Despite declining global rankings, the West Africans maintained their fifth position in Africa. The Atlas Lions of Morocco continue to lead in Africa, followed by Senegal, Egypt, and Côte d'Ivoire.

On the global stage, world champions Argentina held the top spot, with France in second place and newly crowned European champions Spain in third. England moved up to fourth position after reaching the Euro 2024 final, while Brazil slipped to fifth.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking will be published on September 19, 2024.

Dele-Bashiru Signs New Two-Year Contract At Watford

Tom Dele-Bashiru has signed a new contract with Sky Bet Championship club Watford. The midfielder has agreed to a two-year deal with an option for an additional year.

Dele-Bashiru joined Watford on a free transfer in 2019 and has since become a versatile player for the team, occasionally filling in as a right-back during the 2023/24 season. He made 38 appearances and scored three goals last season.

His debut for Watford came in August 2019 during a Carabao Cup match against Coventry City, and he scored his first goal for the club in the FA Cup against Tranmere Rovers in January 2020. Unfortunately, his 2020/21 season was cut short by an ACL injury.

In an effort to gain more playing time and recover his fitness, Dele-Bashiru was loaned to Reading for the 2021/22 season, where he scored four goals in 39 appearances. However, his return to Watford in 2022/23 was again marred by injury, limiting him to just six matches.

Aubameyang Announces Marseille Departure With Greenwood Set To Join French Club

Former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang announced on Wednesday that he is leaving Marseille after just one season, with Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood reportedly set to replace him at the French club.

Aubameyang, 35, joined Marseille from Chelsea last July and scored 30 goals during the campaign. According to multiple media reports, English forward Greenwood, who had charges including rape and assault against him dropped in February 2023, is being lined up by Marseille.

“It’s time for me to start a new chapter,” Aubameyang shared on Instagram. “I have always followed my father’s advice, which has allowed me to become the player I am, and we have made this decision for the next part of my career. I spent a year filled with emotion and I thank the club, the staff, my teammates, and our supporters.”

Greenwood had been suspended by United since January 2022 over the allegations, but prosecutors dropped the charges last year after key witnesses withdrew and new evidence came to light. The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Spanish club Getafe, scoring 10 goals in 36 appearances.

Greenwood was once tipped for stardom at United after rising through the Old Trafford youth system, scoring 35 goals in 129 senior appearances for the club.
