Rangers And PSV Level After First-Leg Thriller

Rangers' hopes of ending their 12-year absence from the Champions League group stage is after an enthralling draw with PSV Eindhoven.

The Ibrox side fell behind to Ibrahim Sangare's thumping finish, only to hit back swiftly with Antonio Colak's well-crafted equaliser.

Goalkeeper Walter Benitez's howler, spilling a Tom Lawrence free-kick, gifted the hosts a second-half lead.

But they were denied a comeback win by Armando Obispo's 78th-minute header.

Slick PSV then almost snatched victory in a breathless contest, with Jon McLaughlin making a sprawling save from Philipp Max. The sides meet again in the play-off second leg next Wednesday in Eindhoven to decide who progresses to the lucrative group stage.

They had Rangers on the ropes for much of the second half as Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side struggled to match the electric home performances of last season's run to the Europa League final.

It's the Champions League top table where Rangers now long to be and they travel to the Netherlands with their dream very much intact having posed PSV's vulnerable defence problems.

Tottenham Sign Italy Under-21s Defender From Udinese For £15m

Defender Destiny Udogie has been acquired by Tottenham for £15 million from Serie A club Udinese.

The 19-year-old has agreed to a five-year deal, and add-ons may bring the price up to an additional £3 million.

The Under-21 international from Italy, who just recently made a permanent move to Udinese this summer, will be loaned back to them for the remainder of the season.

He was a left-back who played 35 league games for Udinese last season, recording five goals and four assists.

Udinese signed Udogie on a season's loan from Hellas Verona in July 2021, and were obliged to buy him this summer as part of that deal - by which time his performances had attracted interest from other clubs.

Udogie is Tottenham's seventh summer signing following the arrivals of Ivan Perisic, Richarlison, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Clement Lenglet and Djed Spence.

August 17, 2022 Serena Williams Thrashed By Emma Raducanu To Dampen Farewell Tour

Serena Williams Thrashed By Emma Raducanu To Dampen Farewell Tour

After defeating Serena Williams in the opening round of the Cincinnati Open, British number one Emma Raducanu put a damper on the American legend's farewell tour.

Williams, 40, lost 6-4, 6-0 in what was to be the farewell match of her career. Williams wants to retire after the US Open, which begins on August 29.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner lacked focus, and her 19-year-old rival punished her with a cool performance.

In the second round, Victoria Azarenka will face defending US Open winner Raducanu.

"I'm so grateful for the experience to have been able to play Serena and for our careers to have crossed over," said world number 13 Raducanu, who played superbly with her defence of the Grand Slam title in New York looming.

"Everything she has achieved has been so inspirational and it was a true honour to share the court with her."

Atletico Beat Getafe 3-0 In Season Opener

Alvaro Morata struck twice to secure Atletico Madrid a 3-0 victory at Getafe in their opening game of the La Liga season on Monday.

Morata, who has returned to Atletico after two years on loan with Juventus, scored a goal in each half before Antoine Griezmann wrapped up the points.

Joao Felix played a key role by setting up all three goals, the first of which Morata swept home from the edge of the box on 15 minutes.

Borja Mayoral grazed the crossbar for Getafe late in the first half, but Morata eased Atletico nerves with a clinical finish on the hour following an error by Stefan Mitrovic.

Felix then threaded the ball through for Griezmann, who cut inside and drove low into the corner to ensure Atletico made a winning start following the departure of Luis Suarez.

The Uruguayan rejoined his boyhood club Nacional on a short-term deal in July after his contract expired at Atletico.
