Rafael Nadal Loses To Borna Coric On Return From Injury

Rafael Nadal's return from injury ended in defeat as the Spaniard suffered a three-set defeat to Borna Coric at the Western and Southern Open.

The 36-year-old was beaten 6-7(9), 6-4, 3-6 in what marked his first appearance since he was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon ahead of his semi-final against Nick Kyrgios due to an abdominal tear.

Coric, making his own return having missed Wimbledon through injury went toe-to-toe with Nadal from the start as both rescued two set points during a gruelling first-set tie break that eventually fell to the Croatian.

Nadal responded strongly to level the match in the second after claiming the first break point of the contest, before surrendering an early break in the decider as Coric pulled away for the victory.

The result denied the world No 3 a return back to the top of the ATP rankings, though he will get the opportunity to do so again at the US Open.

August 18, 2022 Falconets Beat Canada 3-1, To Face The Netherlands In Quarterfinal

Falconets Beat Canada 3-1, To Face The Netherlands In Quarterfinal

Nigeria’s U20 girls, Falconets, set a World Cup group stage perfect record for themselves after beating Canada 3-1 in Alajuela on Thursday morning to finish with a perfect nine points out of nine in Group C.

Head Coach, Chris Danjuma Musa, said before the encounter that his girls would seek to win, even as a quarter-final ticket was already in the bag, in order to sustain their winning mentality following hard-fought victories over France and Korea Republic.

Africa’s best team conceded their first goal of the competition in an accidental manner, following goalkeeper Omini Oyono’s poor management of a back pass from Jumoke Alani that granted Kala Novak a fortuitous goal in less than two minutes.

Midfielder, Esther Onyenezide, scored from the penalty spot in the 24th minute to pull the Falconets level.

The Falconets looked composed and surefooted in the middle with the return of Deborah Abiodun, who sat out the encounter with the Koreans, and Chiamaka Okwuchukwu also played an inspired game after starting for the first time in the tournament.

Onyenezide shot Nigeria ahead, also from the spot, in the 32nd minute minute, after Simi Awujo’s dangerous play against Mercy Idoko, as the latter went for a header from Rofiat Imuran’s inswinger, was penalized.

In the second half, the Falconets added pace and brilliant use of space to their game, and it was no surprise when Imuran, again with a visionary cross, set up substitute Chioma Olise for Nigeria’s third goal.Their imperial campaign in the group stage earns the Falconets a quarter-final date with The Netherlands in Alajuela as from 1am on Monday.

August 18, 2022 Billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe Interested In Buying A Stake In Premier League Club

Billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe Interested In Buying A Stake In Premier League Club

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to buy Manchester United.

News of the 69-year-old's interest follows a report that the Glazer family are willing to sell a minority stake in the club.

"If the club is for sale, Jim is definitely a potential buyer," Ratcliffe's spokesperson said.

20-time English champions, United, are bottom of the Premier League after losing both their opening games of the season under new manager Erik ten Hag.

The woeful start has intensified criticism of the Glazers and their perceived lack of investment in the team.

This summer has seen new signings fail to materialise, including a fruitless pursuit of Barcelona's Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, while superstar striker Cristiano Ronaldo could leave Old Trafford.

The club has struggled since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 and has not won a trophy since 2017.

There have been multiple protests against the Glazers' ownership in recent years, including one in May 2021 which caused the Red Devils' home league match against Liverpool to be postponed.

United fans are planning another protest against the American family during their latest meeting with their Anfield rivals on Monday at Old Trafford.

Elon Musk Sends Social Media Into Frenzy With Joke On Twitter About Buying Man Utd

It was unexpected news that briefly sparked a frenzy on social media and in the football community.

Was the richest guy in the world planning to purchase Manchester United?

Elon Musk, who Forbes estimates to have a net worth of $270 billion (£223 billion), tweeted just after 1:00 BST on Wednesday, "Also, I'm purchasing Manchester United yer welcome."

The American's post received more than 400,000 likes, causing social media chaos.

For United, the beginning of the new season has been tough.

After two losses, they are in last place in the Premier League, star player Cristiano Ronaldo may leave, and new signings aren't working out.

After a "humiliatingly awful" start to the season, its fans are restless, and earlier this week the Manchester United Supporters Trust stated it will "demand answers" from those in charge of the team.
