John Terry Responds to Chelsea Star’s Move to Liverpool

Chelsea legend John Terry has extended his best wishes to young winger Rio Ngumoha after the player made the move from Chelsea to Premier League rivals Liverpool. Ngumoha, who began making waves in Chelsea’s Under-21 squad at just 15 years old, has now signed a scholar’s contract with Liverpool.

The England youth international will start his journey with Liverpool's Under-18 team. According to The Athletic, while the Premier League has approved the transfer, a tribunal may still be necessary to determine the compensation fee between the two clubs.

Ngumoha, now 16, could make his debut for Liverpool in their upcoming match against Blackburn Rovers next Saturday. He announced the transfer on Instagram with the caption, “Delighted to sign for Liverpool YNWA.”

John Terry, currently a coach in Chelsea’s academy, responded to the post, simply saying: "Good luck, mate."

Leicester Win Appeal Against Premier League Charge

Leicester City has successfully won an appeal against a potential points deduction for an alleged breach of Premier League Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules. According to BBC Sport, an independent panel ruled that the Premier League lacked the jurisdiction to penalize the club.

The Premier League expressed its "surprise and disappointment" at the panel’s decision.

Leicester City stated that their appeal was focused on ensuring that the rules are enforced as they are written. The club was initially charged by the Premier League for violating spending regulations. While Leicester appealed the charge, an independent commission initially ruled that the Premier League could take action.

Leicester then appealed this ruling, arguing that the charge was issued while they were still a part of the English Football League (EFL). The final outcome of this appeal was announced on Tuesday.

Under PSR rules, clubs are prohibited from losing more than £105 million over a three-season period. The charges against Leicester pertained to the three-year period ending with the 2022-23 season. However, the club was relegated to the Championship at the end of that season and only filed its accounts after it was no longer a Premier League member.

In contrast, Nottingham Forest and Everton both received point deductions last season after being found in violation of PSR rules.

Palmer Withdraws From England Squad, Returns To Chelsea

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has withdrawn from the England squad ahead of their upcoming Nations League matches and has returned to Stamford Bridge.

The Football Association announced that Phil Foden and Ollie Watkins have also pulled out of the squad. Foden, who was recently named PFA Player of the Year, was called up by interim England manager Lee Carsley but did not join the team due to illness.

Palmer and Watkins initially reported for duty at St George’s Park but have since returned to their respective clubs to continue their recovery from ongoing issues, according to the Football Association.

England is set to face the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Saturday, September 7, followed by a match against Finland at Wembley three days later. These fixtures will be the team's first since their loss to Spain in the Euro 2024 final on July 14.

Following that defeat, Gareth Southgate resigned as England manager, and U-21 boss Lee Carsley was appointed as interim manager on August 9.

In his squad selection for the Nations League games, Carsley has called up Angel Gomes, Tino Livramento, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Noni Madueke. All four players were part of the U-21 squad under Carsley’s management.

Additionally, Jack Grealish, who was left out of England’s preliminary Euro 2024 squad, has been recalled along with Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.

Suarez Announces Retirement From International Football

Uruguay and Inter Miami striker Luis Suarez has announced his retirement from international football at the age of 37. Fighting back tears, Suarez revealed that his final match for Uruguay will be the 2026 World Cup qualifier against Paraguay on Friday.

"I’ve thought long and hard about this, and I believe the time is right," Suarez said on Monday. "I want to enjoy my last game with the national team, just as I did when I first played in 2007. That 19-year-old kid is now an experienced veteran with a rich history with the team, and I'll give everything I have on Friday."

Suarez, Uruguay’s all-time top scorer with 69 goals in 142 appearances, has had a remarkable 14-year international career. The former Liverpool, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid striker last represented his country in the 2024 Copa America, where he scored a dramatic equalizer in the third-place match against Canada and helped Uruguay secure the bronze medal.

Suarez featured in nine major tournaments for Uruguay and was a key player in their 2011 Copa America victory, scoring four goals, including crucial strikes in the semi-final and final, and earning the Player of the Tournament award.

He made his senior debut for Uruguay in February 2007 against Colombia, though he was sent off after receiving two yellow cards. Suarez played in his first World Cup in 2010, scoring three goals, including a memorable brace in the round of 16 against South Korea. He also infamously blocked a goal-bound shot with his hand in the quarter-final against Ghana, leading to a missed penalty by Asamoah Gyan, and Uruguay advanced to the semi-finals for the first time since 1970.
