Manchester United Agree £80m Deal For Brazilian Winger

Manchester United have agreed an £85m deal with Ajax for winger Antony.

United will pay a guaranteed £80.75m and another £4.25m in add-ons for the 22-year-old, who is expected in Manchester in the next 48 hours to have a medical.

Antony was once again left out of the Ajax squad for Sunday's game at Utrecht as talks between the clubs continued.

Personal terms are not thought to be a problem in this deal.

Antony scored 25 goals and provided 22 assists in 82 appearances for Ajax, having joined the Dutch side from Sao Paulo in 2020 and played under current United boss Erik ten Hag.

He made his international debut for Brazil in October 2021 and has two goals in nine appearances.

Antony, who contributed to seven goals in his 11 Champions League appearances for Ajax, would also become the joint-fourth most expensive signing in Premier League history.

Only Pogba's move to United, Chelsea's signing of Romelu Lukaku and Manchester City's deal for Jack Grealish would be more costly.

United travel to Leicester City in their next Premier League fixture on Thursday, 1 September, but Antony would need to receive a work permit before making an appearance.

The attacker would become United's fifth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of his former Ajax team-mate, defender Lisandro Martinez, midfielder Casemiro from Real Madrid, full-back Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord and playmaker Christian Eriksen on a free transfer.

Kane’s Brace Leads Tottenham To Victory Over Nottingham Forest

Harry Kane scored his third and fourth goals of the season as he led Tottenham Hotspur to a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at City Ground on Sunday.

Kane gave his side the lead early as he found the bottom left corner from just outside the box in the fifth minute.

He then finished off the game in the closing stages to continue Tottenham’s undefeated start to the season.

Forest conceded a penalty in the second half through a handball from defender Steve Cook.

But this time Henderson denied Kane, giving the keeper successive penalty saves at home after denying West Ham’s Declan Rice two weeks ago.

Club-record signing Morgan Gibbs-White impressed on his debut for Forest, but the home side could not find a way back into the match.

The result meant Tottenham moved to third in the table, while Forest find themselves in 12th.

Difference-maker Kane said after the match that despite the win, he felt that his side did not play their best.

Tottenham will face West Ham on Wednesday evening as they look to continue their run of form

Benzema Scores Late Double As Real Madrid Beat Espanyol

Karim Benzema scored two late goals as La Liga champions Real Madrid beat Espanyol in a thrilling finale.

Vinicius Jr gave Real the lead from a clever Aurelien Tchouameni ball.

Joselu levelled with a rebound after Thibaut Courtois saved his first effort and the experienced striker had other chances to give Espanyol the lead.

Benzema volleyed in Rodrygo's cross to give Real the lead and he added a third from a free-kick against makeshift goalkeeper Leandro Cabrera.

Espanyol's starting goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte was shown a straight red card in the sixth minute of injury time for a professional foul on Dani Ceballos - after a long video assistant referee review.

The hosts had a goalkeeper on the bench but had used their three substitution windows so had to put captain Cabrera in goal instead.

He was rooted to the spot as Benzema - who also had a goal disallowed for offside - curled the resulting free-kick into the bottom corner. That was his 327th goal for Real and his first from a direct free-kick.

Defending champions Real have won their opening three games of the La Liga season.

Espanyol, without a win this season, will rue their missed chances when the game was 1-1.

Benzema Wins UEFA Men’s Player Of The Year Award

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has won the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award after his stellar 2021/22 season.

Club teammate Thibaut Courtois – who was named man of the match for his heroics in May’s Champions League final win over Liverpool – and Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne were named on the final shortlist.

But the gong was awarded to Benzema at the draw for the 2022/23 Champions League group stage in Istanbul on Thursday.

The France international led Los Blancos to their 14th Champions League title, popping up with big goals at vital moments in knockout round ties with PSG, Chelsea and Manchester City when his team needed him most.

Benzema also played a crucial role in Real Madrid’s La Liga title-winning campaign, wrestling the Spanish crown back from rivals Atletico Madrid.

Forming a formidable forward partnership with the once-maligned Vinicius Junior, Benzema scored a whopping 44 goals in 46 games for Real Madrid in all competitions last season.

With UEFA’s top prize now in his possession, his sights will now be set on claiming the Ballon d’Or in October.

Benzema is widely expected to become the first Frenchman since Zinedine Zidane to take home the award.
