Bournemouth Sack Head Coach Parker

Bournemouth have sacked manager Scott Parker after Saturday's 9-0 defeat by Liverpool, four games into the season.

After the loss, Parker, 41, said he was "not surprised" and said the team was "ill-equipped at this level".

It was their third straight league defeat, having won their opening match.

"In order for us to keep progressing as a team and a club as a whole, it is unconditional that we are aligned in our strategy to run the club sustainably," said owner Maxim Demin.

"That is the approach that has brought this club so much success in recent history, and one that we will not veer from now. Our search for a new head coach will begin immediately."

Gary O'Neil will take interim charge of the team and will be assisted by Shaun Cooper and Tommy Elphick.

The 41-year-old joined Bournemouth in June 2021 and led them to promotion from the Championship as runners-up.

His departure follows what he described as a "humbling experience" at Liverpool, saying in his post-match press conference that the squad needed strengthening if they were to be equipped for the Premier League.

The former Fulham manager also made pointed remarks directed towards the club's hierarchy in an apparent bid for support in the transfer market.

West Ham Sign Lyon’s Paqueta For Club Record Fee

West Ham have announced the "club record signing" of Brazil midfielder Lucas Paqueta on a five year contract.

The 25-year-old, who is expected to be part of the Brazil squad at this year's World Cup, has joined from Lyon.

The initial £36.5m deal for Paqueta could rise to more than £50m with potential add-ons - eclipsing the £45m signing of striker Sebastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019.

Paqueta joined Lyon for €20m (£17m) in 2020 after 18 months at AC Milan.

Paqueta scored nine goals and contributed six assists in 35 Ligue 1 appearances last season.

He has scored seven times in 33 games for Brazil and played for Lyon against West Ham in last season's Europa League quarter-final, which the Hammers won 4-1 on aggregate.

Paqueta has scored 21 times and contributed 14 assists in his 80 appearances for Lyon.

Moyes has spoken about the difficulties he has encountered signing players this summer as he bids to maintain momentum after last season's run to the Europa League semi-final.

The Hammers have three points from their first four Premier League games and host Tottenham on Wednesday

They will also compete in the group stage of the Europa Conference League.

Williams Starts Us Open Farewell With A Win

Serena Williams extended her US Open farewell with a gritty opening win on an entertaining night packed with hope and celebration in New York.

Williams, who is set to retire after the tournament, won 6-3 6-3 against Montenegro's Danka Kovinic.

A near-capacity 25,000 crowd on Arthur Ashe Stadium willed on their idol, who responded in typical determined style.

Williams, 40, will play Estonian second seed Anett Kontaveit in the second round on Wednesday.

The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, who is one short of Australian Margaret Court's all-time record, is also playing in the doubles alongside older sister Venus, adding another exciting element to what she hopes will be a long goodbye this fortnight.

Her first assignment was beating Kovinic, ranked 80th in the world, and there was a thunderous noise when she took the first of three match points to ensure her singles career was not over yet.

Williams jumped on the spot when Kovinic's backhand return hit the net then twirled ecstatically in the centre of the court before blowing kisses to her adoring fans when she had returned to her seat to soak in the occasion.

Bayer Leverkusen Agree Season-Long Loan Deal For Chelsea Winger Odoi

Bayer Leverkusen have agreed a season-long loan deal with Chelsea for winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Hudson-Odoi is expected to fly to Germany on Monday for a medical.

The move was in danger of collapse 24 hours ago as Leverkusen wanted an option inserted in the deal, but Chelsea only wanted a straight loan. It will be the first time the forward has been loaned out by the club.

Talks went into the night with Hudson-Odoi's representative - his brother Bradley - able to convince Leverkusen to take the deal on the terms Chelsea wanted.

Hudson-Odoi and his representatives listened to all offers and spoke to a number of clubs before deciding Leverkusen presented the best option for his development.

The forward came through the youth ranks at Chelsea and has two years left on his current contract, scoring 16 goals in 126 appearances since his first team debut in 2018.

He came close to joining Borussia Dortmund on loan last summer - only for Chelsea to block the move on Deadline Day.
