Valencia Confirm Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani Deal

Edinson Cavani has completed a free transfer move to Valencia ahead of the end of the transfer window.

The Uruguayan international has been available as a free agent following his release by Manchester United at the end of the 2021/22 season.

Cavani arrived at United in 2020, after ending a fantastic spell at Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain, before leaving as the club’s highest ever goal scorer, with 200 club goals in France.

The 35-year-old was previously linked with a possible move to Villarreal and Real Sociedad, but he opted to join Los Che as part of his desire to return to Spain.

The club have confirmed the deal ahead of their clash with Atletico Madrid with Cavani signing a two-year deal up until the end of the 2023/24 campaign at the Estadio Mestalla.

Cavani is expected to join up with his new teammates soon and he could make his club debut against Getafe this weekend.

Southampton Fight Back For Deserved Win Over Chelsea

Southampton came from behind to earn their second win of the fledgling Premier League season and move above a Chelsea side lacking cohesion and a cutting edge at St Mary's.

Raheem Sterling is the Blues' top scorer and got Thomas Tuchel's side off to a promising start with his third goal in two games thanks to a calm swivel and finish in the 23rd minute.

But another former Manchester City player levelled moments later, with Romeo Lavia firing a superb effort beyond Edouard Mendy after Chelsea failed to properly clear a corner.

From then on Southampton were the better side and scored what proved to be the winner before the break, when Romain Perraud picked out Adam Armstrong and his effort deflected off Kalidou Koulibaly and into the net.

Ralph Hasenhuttl's outfit climb to seventh as a result of the deserved victory, level on seven points with Chelsea but above them on goals scored.

Tsitsipas Stunned By Galan As Medvedev Wins Opener

Fourth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas was stunned by Daniel Galan in the US Open first round, as Daniil Medvedev made a winning start to his title defence.

Tsitispas was one of five players who could have ended the year's final Grand Slam as the top-ranked men's player.

But the Greek, 24, was unable to win any of the first 11 games as he lost in four sets to world number 94 Galan, who prevailed with a ninth match point.

Russian world number one Medvedev beat American Stefan Kozlov 6-2 6-4 6-0.

Medvedev, 26, claimed his first Grand Slam title in New York last year by beating Novak Djokovic, who was not allowed to travel to the United States because he is not vaccinated against Covid-19.

He will play Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech in the second round following his comfortable win on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Colombian qualifier Galan, meanwhile, faces Australian Jordan Thompson next after securing the biggest win of his career on his main-draw debut at Flushing Meadows in New York.

Although Tsitsipas claimed a must-win third set to keep his hopes alive, Galan was able to recover from a break down in the fourth and won four of the final five games to seal a memorable 6-0 6-1 3-6 7-5 victory.
