Tuchel ‘Honoured’ To Be Part Of Chelsea History

Thomas Tuchel says he is "honoured" to have been part of Chelsea's history and his time at the club will "always have a special place in my heart".

Tuchel, 49, was sacked as a manager this week after his 100th game in charge ended in defeat by Dinamo Zagreb.

The Blues appointed Graham Potter from Brighton as his replacement the next day, with compensation for the Englishman his staff totalling £21m.

Tuchel said he was "devastated" his time at Chelsea had come to an end.

The former Borussia Dortmund and Paris St-Germain boss exited Stamford Bridge after winning three trophies in 20 months, including the 2020-21 Champions League.

But a club statement on Wednesday said the new owners believed it was "the right time" to bring in a new head coach.

The German said on social media: "This is one of the most difficult statements I have ever had to write - and it is one which I hoped I would not need to do for many years.

"This is a club where I felt at home, both professionally and personally. Thank you so much to all the staff, the players and the supporters for making me feel very welcome from the start.

"The pride and joy I felt at helping the team to win the Champions League and the Club World Cup will stay with me forever.

"I am honoured to have been a part of this club's history and the memories of the last 19 months will always have a special place in my heart."

UEFA have also announced that no away fans will be present at Ibrox this week and, as a matter of sporting fairness, Rangers' supporters will not be authorised for the return leg in Naples on October 26.

Fans have been strongly advised to avoid making travel Rangers started their Champions’ League Group A campaign with a 4-0 defeat at Ajax Amsterdam and Napoli thrashed Liverpool 4-1 at home.

All UEFA competition matches are expected to go ahead as planned next week across Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Teenager Alcaraz Wins US Open To Earn First Major

Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz fulfilled his potential as a future Grand Slam champion and world number one by beating Casper Ruud in the US Open final to achieve both feats.

Alcaraz won 6-4 2-6 7-6 (7-1) 6-3 in his first major final.

The 19-year-old is the youngest men's Grand Slam champion since Rafael Nadal won the French Open in 2005.

Ruud, 23, would have become the new world number one if he had won, but has now lost both of his two major finals.

Instead it is Alcaraz who replaces Russia's Daniil Medvedev at the top, becoming the first teenager to climb to the summit in the 49-year history of the ATP rankings.

After hitting a routine forehand long on his first championship point, Alcaraz took his second with a service winner out wide and instantly fell flat on his back in celebration in New York.

Alcaraz, who saved two set points in the third which would have put Ruud ahead, ran up to his team in the stands and danced with them in a huddle, before returning to his seat where he was crying at the same time as smiling.
