Man Utd 2-1 Brentford: Garnacho and Hojlund Secure Comeback Victory for Red Devils

Manchester United secured their first win in six games with a comeback victory over Brentford on Saturday.

Manager Erik ten Hag appeared to be heading toward another tumultuous moment after a controversial decision by referee Sam Barrott gave Brentford a halftime lead.

However, the call seemed to energize a sluggish United side, who responded with second-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund, securing a crucial win. These goals may have helped alleviate some of the mounting pressure on Ten Hag, who would have faced significant scrutiny had United suffered another defeat.

The match took a dramatic turn when, just before the break, Barrott sent off Matthijs de Ligt, leaving United temporarily down to 10 men. De Ligt had an earlier head injury that reopened, and while the official had the right to take action, the timing—right before a Brentford corner—was far from ideal.

Predictably, Brentford capitalized, with Ethan Pinnock heading in unchallenged from Christian Damsgaard’s corner. On the sidelines, Ten Hag, usually composed, was visibly furious and received a booking, as did his assistant Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who was equally upset by the decision.

Gusau Pledges to Safeguard Nigeria’s Dignity Amid Libya Crisis

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, has pledged to do everything in his power to protect the dignity of Nigeria and ensure the safety of the players. His statement comes in response to the mistreatment faced by Nigeria’s senior men’s national team at the hands of Libyan authorities during their trip for the second leg of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Group D match against the Mediterranean Knights.

Upon arrival in Libya on Sunday, the team was subjected to inhumane treatment. A video shared by the Super Eagles media team shows the players and officials stranded at the airport, with their luggage, while Libyan airport staff appeared indifferent to their situation and conversed in Arabic, ignoring their concerns.

The match was set to take place at the 10,000-capacity Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Benina, near Benghazi. However, the team’s plane was unexpectedly diverted to Al Abraq Airport, located over 200 kilometers away from their planned camp site, requiring a grueling three-and-a-half-hour drive to reach their destination.

Former Real Madrid Star Tattoos Baby’s Name, Only to Discover He’s Not the Father Days Later

Brazilian right-back Vinicius Tobias, 20, recently found himself at the center of a personal revelation after getting a tattoo in honor of his newborn daughter, Maite. Tobias, who currently plays for Shakhtar Donetsk and previously had a stint with Real Madrid, had "Maite, I love you" inked on his arm following her birth on October 8. However, his ex-wife, influencer Ingrid Lima, has since revealed that a DNA test confirmed that Tobias is not Maite's biological father.

Ingrid explained via social media that their relationship had been on-and-off around the time of Maite’s conception. She admitted that both she and Tobias were involved with other people during that period, leading to the eventual DNA test. Her statement read: "I want to address something that's become an issue, and unfortunately, I need to publicly explain. Vinicius and I were no longer together. During that time, we both had other relationships. That's when Maite came into the picture. We decided to do a DNA test, and it turns out Maite is not Vinicius' daughter."

Tobias has yet to comment on the DNA results. Despite the personal upheaval, his professional career has been gaining momentum. Once compared to football stars like Dani Alves and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Tobias first made his mark during the U15 South American Championships in 2019, where he scored in the final against Argentina. His talent drew the attention of top European clubs such as Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid.

Eventually, Shakhtar Donetsk secured his services for £6 million, and Real Madrid later took him on loan in 2022. Although he only made one senior appearance for the Spanish giants, Tobias has returned to Shakhtar, where he has played five matches so far in the 2024/25 season.
