Osimhen In Top Five Most Expensive Serie A Players

Football Benchmark, a football statistics website that offers in-depth insight and analysis of the business of football, and the market prices of thousands of footballers, has put Victor Osimhen among the top five most expensive players in the Italian Serie A.

According to the Naples-based daily newspaper Il Mattino, the Nigeria international is the fourth most expensive player in the Italian top flight, costing €80 million (about N38.1 billion).

AC Milan's Portugal World Cup hero Rafael Leo is valued at €90 million, followed by Inter Milan talents Nicol Barella (€83 million) and 2022 World Cup winner Lautaro Martnez (€81.5 million).

Theo Hernandez (€79 million) of AC Milan's France national team rounds out the top five. He began the World Cup final against Argentina on December 18.

Osimhen’s stock is €12.5m more than last September, when the season had just begun, going up from €67.5m to €80m, which is the most increase by any player in the list.

The 2015 U17 World Cup winner has seen his stock rise after impressive performances for Napoli this season with nine goals in eleven appearances to lead the scoring chart in Italy.

Osimhen has two and a half years left on his contract with Napoli, whom he joined from Lille in 2020 for a club record fee of 70 million euros.

December 22, 2022 Messi Extends PSG Contract

Messi Extends PSG Contract

Paris Saint-Germain have revealed that World Cup-winning Argentina captain Lionel Messi has agreed to extend his contract at the Parc des Princes for at least another season, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2023-24 season, when he will be 37.

During the World Cup, PSG had regular discussions with Lionel Messi’s father and agent, Jorge Messi, and Le Parisien reported that a verbal agreement was reached several weeks ago at the beginning of December.

The news appears to put an end to speculation about a possible return to Barcelona, who were rumored to be preparing to use another financial level to facilitate Messi’s return to Camp Nou.

Inter Miami, owned by David Beckham, has also been linked to Messi, but will have to wait at least another 18 months to get their man.

According to the Paris-based publication, PSG had little trouble convincing Messi to stay, with Messi and his family happy and settled in Paris and the new contract providing an opportunity for him to continue playing at the highest level.

Prior to the World Cup, rumors circulated that the former Barcelona star was doubting his ability to continue playing elite-level soccer, but his outstanding performances in Qatar, where he scored eight goals, including two in the final against France, demonstrated that he still has a lot to offer.

Chelsea Suffer Another Injury Blow Ahead Of Premier League Return

Chelsea have suffered another injury blow as Wesley Fofana hobbled off in a friendly game on Tuesday, just days before the Premier League returns.

Chelsea defeated Brentford 5-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly, but the success was overshadowed by Fofana hobbling out with a knee injury.

On Wednesday, the Blues will evaluate Fofana and determine the extent of his injuries.

Fofana, who joined Chelsea from Leicester for £70 million in the summer, has not played since injuring his knee against AC Milan in October.

While a dozen of his teammates traveled to Qatar for the World Cup, the defender remained behind to recuperate and prepare for the Premier League’s return on December 26.

Chelsea suffered a huge injury setback earlier this month in a pre-World Cup friendly against Aston Villa, when Armando Broja tore his anterior cruciate ligament and was declared out for the remainder of the season.

In better news, Reece James, who missed England’s World Cup campaign due to a knee injury, played an hour in the warm-up friendly against Brentford.

Chelsea’s first Premier League encounter following the resumption comes on December 27 at home against Bournemouth.
