Graham Potter Under Pressure As Chelsea Problems Continue After Defeat To Manchester City

Manchester City advanced to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a simple win against a woefully poor Chelsea at Etihad Stadium.

This was a far cry from what has traditionally been a hugely competitive meeting between two Premier League giants as City wrapped up a tie with either Oxford United or Arsenal in the next round by the interval.

City’s triumph against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday was hard-fought, but this was a breeze, with Riyad Mahrez kicking them off with a superb free-kick in the 23rd minute, and World Cup winner Julian Alvarez scoring from the spot seven minutes later after Kai Havertz was fouled.

After 38 minutes, Phil Foden scored City’s third goal, turning in Kyle Walker’s cross when being sent in by Thursday’s match-winner Riyad Mahrez, who earned his second from the penalty spot late on after Kalidou Koulibaly clumsily knocked Foden to the ground.

Chelsea, manager Graham Potter, and their travelling fans screamed the name of Thomas Tuchel, the Champions League-winning manager dismissed by new owner Todd Boehly in September.

Manchester United Speak To Burnley About Signing Netherlands Forward, Wout Weghorst On Loan

Man Utd are waiting to see whether Burnley and Besiktas can reach an agreement to end Wout Weghorst’s loan; the player is said to desire to transfer to Old Trafford; United must register Weghorst by 12pm on Friday in order for him to be available for the Manchester derby on Saturday.

United are waiting to find out if Burnley can come to an agreement with Besiktas to cut short his loan – and if the figures work. It is thought the player wants to make the move to Old Trafford.

Ceyhun Kazanci, Besiktas’ sports director, says any move will only take place if the club is rewarded; else, Weghorst will finish out his season-long loan.

Chelsea Sign Monaco Defender, Benoit Badiashile For Thirty Four Million Pounds

Chelsea has completed the signing of France defender Benoit Badiashile from Monaco on a seven-and-a-half-year contract.

The 21-year-old has joined Chelsea for a reputed £35 million price after making over 100 appearances in Ligue 1 for the Principality side.

He has also been in the Champions League and been capped twice by the French national team, making his debut in a 2-1 victory against Austria last September.

Following the additions of Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana during the summer transfer window, Badiashile becomes Chelsea’s third key central-defensive acquisition this season.

“I’m delighted to be here at Chelsea,” Badiashile told the club’s official website. “I’m beyond thrilled to be joining this group. I can’t wait to meet the fans and play in the world’s top league.”

He is the club’s second acquisition of the January transfer window, after striker David Datro Fofana’s arrival from Molde in Norway earlier this week.

“We’re delighted to welcome Benoit to Chelsea,” chairman Todd Boehly and co-owner Behdad Eghbali told the club’s website. “He’s an excellent young player who has quickly established a strong reputation for himself and has a huge amount of experience for his young age. We are sure he will form an important part of our team in the years ahead.”

Capsey and Kate Cross, who missed the series whitewash in the West Indies last month, have been nominated to head coach Jon Lewis’ 15-player roster.

England’s campaign began on February 11 against the West Indies as part of a group that also includes India, Pakistan, and Ireland.

Before the official ICC warm-up games, they will play three warm-up matches against New Zealand.
