Chelsea In Advanced Talks To Sign Atletico Forward, Joao Felix On Loan

The Blues are expected to sign the Portugal attacker ahead of Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal, with neither club ready to pay the €11 million (£9.69 million) loan fee.

Felix would provide head coach Graham Potter’s offensive options a much-needed boost, with his team scoring only 20 goals in 17 Premier League games this season.

Despite the fact that the transfer season has only been open for a little more than a week, Chelsea has already been busy in January, adding Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, and Andrey Santos.

Potter will be hoping that their signings can assist his team’s form, since they have only won one of their past seven matches in all competitions.

Chelsea are currently 10th in the Premier League – 10 points outside the top four – and have already been knocked out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup

Martinez Named New Portugal Head Coach

Former Belgium coach Roberto Martinez has been chosen manager of Portugal, according to the country’s football organization (FPF).

“I appreciate the enthusiasm and ambition with which he [Martinez] received the invitation,” FPF president Fernando Gomes told a news conference.

“This is an important moment for the national team.”

Following Belgium’s sad World Cup group stage elimination, the Spaniard resigned as coach, claiming he had taken the choice to finish his six-year career some time ago and would have departed even if they had won the tournament.

It marked the end of a lengthy tenure in command of the team he led to the top of FIFA’s global rankings and third place in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The 49-year-old takes over for former Portugal coach Fernando Santos, who resigned after the side was stunned by Morocco in the quarter-finals in Qatar.

Rudi Garcia, the coach of Al Nassr, has disclosed that Cristiano Ronaldo will make his debut in Saudi Arabia as part of an exhibition team in a friendly against Paris Saint-Germain, which might put him against Lionel Messi.

The attacker has been suspended by the Football Association for striking a phone out of the hand of a child spectator during Manchester United’s loss at Everton in April.

It has pushed back Ronaldo’s much-anticipated debut, which is now set to take place in a showpiece match against PSG in Riyadh on January 19, complicating Garcia’s domestic plans.

PSG Owners Want To Invest In A Premier League Club

The Qatari owners of Paris Saint-Germain are looking at investing in a Premier League club.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of Paris Saint-Germain and chairman of Qatar Sports Investments, met Daniel Levy, executive chairman of Tottenham Hotspur, at a London hotel last week.

Al-Khelaifi is also the president of the European Club Association, and Levy serves on its executive committee.

QSI owns PSG as well as a minority position in the Portuguese team Braga, and they want to purchase or invest in other clubs this year.

Multi-club ownership organizations hold around 300 teams worldwide, although QSI’s main stakes are in PSG and Braga. That will change in 2023, when QSI plans to make ambitious strategic acquisitions.

Many observers expected QSI to be less interested in football ventures after the World Cup in Qatar, but the reverse is likely the case.
