Ex-Falcons Coach Mabo Dies At 78

Ismaila Mabo, the former coach of the Super Falcons, passed away in the early hours of Monday morning at the age of 78.

Mabo had been battling an illness for some time and passed away at his residence in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.

Mabo, a legendary captain of the Mighty Jets of Jos and ex-international, had confirmed in January that he was battling an illness after the death of his wife.

He was regarded as the most successful Nigerian coach in women's football and had led the Falcons to their best-ever performance at the Women's World Cup, a quarter-final finish in 1999. He was also the coach of the team at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games.

Funeral prayers for the late coach will be held at 10 am on Monday. Mabo's contributions to Nigerian football will always be remembered, and his passing is a significant loss for the sport.

Arsenal Beat Fulham To Restore Five-Point Lead

In an impressive display of attacking football, Arsenal extended their lead at the top of the Premier League with a comprehensive victory over Fulham.

Mikel Arteta's team responded perfectly to Manchester City's narrow win at Crystal Palace on Saturday night, putting in a dominant first-half performance to secure a 3-0 lead.

Gabriel Martinelli had a goal disallowed for offside by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) before defender Gabriel headed in Leandro Trossard's corner to open the scoring after 21 minutes.

Trossard then assisted Martinelli's header before setting up captain Martin Odegaard for Arsenal's third goal in first-half stoppage time.

Although Fulham mounted a late rally in the second half, with Aaron Ramsdale denying Bobby de Cordova-Reid and Tosin Adarabioyo hitting the woodwork, Arsenal remained in control of the game.

Arteta even brought on the returning Gabriel Jesus, who had been sidelined with a knee injury sustained while playing for Brazil at the World Cup, for a 13-minute cameo.

Overall, it was a clinical and impressive performance from Arsenal that further cemented their position at the top of the Premier League.

Arsenal Celebrations To Be Investigated By FA

The Football Association is investigating Arsenal's celebrations after Saturday's 97th-minute winner over Bournemouth.

Referee Chris Kavanagh included the incident in his match report, which will be reviewed.

Reiss Nelson's goal secured the victory, prompting the Gunners' bench, substitutes, and coaching staff to rush onto the field to celebrate with him.

The win allowed Arsenal to maintain their five-point lead at the top of the Premier League. Bournemouth had taken an early lead through Philip Billing and went 2-0 up thanks to a Marcos Senesi header before Arsenal's comeback, which included goals from Thomas Partey and Ben White.

March 7, 2023 UEFA To Refund Liverpool Fans For Champions League Final Tickets

UEFA To Refund Liverpool Fans For Champions League Final Tickets

UEFA announced on Tuesday that it would provide a full refund to all Liverpool fans who purchased tickets for the 2022 Champions League final.

The decision was made after a review of the event highlighted a series of organorganisationalures that nearly resulted in a disaster outside the Stade de France.

The refund scheme will cover all 19,618 Liverpool tickets, with fans receiving the full ticket cost back from the European football governing body. Ticket prices for the final in Paris last May ranged from £59.40 to £585.70.

Liverpool was involved in the decision-making process from the start and influenced discussions. This refund comes after Liverpool fans were subjected to indiscriminate tear gas spraying, which led to crushing around the stadium before the game but were initially blamed by UEFA and the French government for causing the disturbances.

Both later rowed back on those claims with a UEFA-commissioned report praising their conduct and saying the organisational failures from the two governing bodies could have had catastrophic consequences.
