Super Falcons To Face Ethiopia Or Chad In Second Round Of 2024 Paris Olympic Qualifiers

In the second round of the 2024 Paris Olympic football qualifying, Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face either Ethiopia or Chad.

This was confirmed on Tuesday via the Ethiopia Football Federation’s Twitter account.

The qualifying draw took place on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt.

Ethiopia and Chad will meet in the first round, with the winner of two legs facing the Super Falcons in the second round.

The African qualifications will begin in July 2023 and end in April 2024. This will be done in four rounds of home and away matches.

Only two women’s teams will represent Africa in the Olympic football event in Paris.

The Super Falcons have missed the last three Olympic Games (2012, 2016, 2020).

Their previous appearance in the football event at the Olympics was in 2008, when they were eliminated in the group round in Beijing.

Chelsea Will Not Be Signing Felix As Pochettino Tells Club Not To Make Loan Permanent

This summer, Chelsea will not sign loanee Joao Felix to a permanent contract.

The Atletico Madrid forward was loaned to the Premier League club in January and appeared in 20 games across all competitions, scoring four goals and collecting no assists.

And new manager Mauricio Pochettino has already decided that a £15 million permanent deal for the Portuguese sensation is not in the cards.

In a harsh first move, the Argentine has dropped the player Atletico purchased for £113 million in 2019 – the fourth-most expensive transfer in history.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has declared that the Blues would not sign Felix and that he will return to the Spanish capital.

PSG Considering Move For Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard

Paris Saint-Germain, the Ligue 1 winners, are reportedly mulling a surprise bid for Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard.

Odegaard was an important player for Arsenal, who finished second, five points behind champions Manchester City.

In 37 Premier League games this season, the former Real Madrid player scored 15 goals and provided eight assists.

The Norwegian now has the joint third-highest goal tally of any Premier League midfielder in a single season, after only Matt le Tissier and Dele Alli.

Following his outstanding performance for Arsenal, it is believed that PSG is investigating a transfer for him.

They do, however, warn that any potential transaction will be challenging. The midfielder is apparently ‘glad with life in London’ and is ‘essential to Arteta’s future plans.’

Indeed, retaining their finest players, such as Odegaard, is critical if Arsenal wants to compete for the Premier League title again next season.

Sallah Devasted At Missing Out On Champions League

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has shared his profound disappointment after his club failed to secure a place in next season's UEFA Champions League, stating that there are "absolutely no excuses" for this outcome.

Salah took to social media shortly after Manchester United's victory over Chelsea confirmed Liverpool's fifth-place finish, which means they will participate in the Europa League instead.

In his heartfelt post, the 30-year-old Egyptian international acknowledged the team's letdown, expressing remorse to the fans and himself. Despite winning seven of their last eight matches in a late surge for fourth place, Liverpool's inconsistent form throughout the season ultimately proved too difficult to overcome.

Manchester United's draw against Chelsea in their penultimate game secured their Champions League qualification, joining Manchester City, Arsenal, and Newcastle United as England's representatives in the elite European competition next season.

Salah, who was part of Liverpool's triumphant Champions League campaign in 2018-19 and the runner-up team in the subsequent year, acknowledged that Liverpool possessed all the necessary ingredients to secure a spot in next year's tournament but ultimately fell short.

As a club with high expectations, Salah emphasized that qualifying for the Champions League is the bare minimum for Liverpool. He sincerely apologized to the fans but expressed that it is too soon for an uplifting or optimistic message.

The disappointment within the Liverpool camp is palpable, and Salah's candid statement reflects the collective sentiment as the team prepares for their Europa League campaign next season.
