Tobi Amusan Cleared Over Missing Doping Tests

Tobi Amusan, the Nigerian 100m hurdles world record holder, has had her suspension overturned after it was determined that she had not violated anti-doping rules due to missed tests.
The 26-year-old was expected to miss the World Athletics Championships, which begin this weekend in Budapest.

After an Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) disciplinary tribunal hearing, she can now defend her world championship.
She was accused of failing three doping tests.
The two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist denies using performance-enhancing drugs.

“A panel of the disciplinary tribunal, by majority decision, has today found that Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation of three whereabouts failures within a 12-month period,” the AIU stated in a statement.

Amusan wrote on Instagram, “I’m thrilled to put this behind me and look forward to defending my title at next week’s World Championships.”
Amusan established the women’s 100m hurdles world record in 12.12 seconds at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon in July 2022.

According to World Athletics’ anti-doping rules, any athlete who fails to notify their whereabouts for a doping test three times in a 12-month period is barred from competing for two years, subject to a reduction to a minimum of one year depending on the degree of fault.

Manchester City Triumphs Over Sevilla to Secure Super Cup Victory

Manchester City added the UEFA Super Cup to the Treble they claimed last season with a victory over Sevilla on penalties in Athens.

Pep Guardiola's Champions League winners lost the Community Shield to Arsenal in a shootout but saw their fortunes transformed when Sevilla's Nemanja Gudelj hit the bar after nine successful penalties.

City had to come from behind in an entertaining encounter to force penalties after a towering header from Youssef En-Nesyri put the Europa League holders ahead on 25 minutes.

Sevilla goalkeeper Bono and his Manchester City counterpart Ederson both excelled with fine saves before man-of-the-match Cole Palmer rose at the far post in the 63rd minute to level with a looping header from Rodri's cross.

City belatedly improved as the game headed towards the final whistle and almost won in stoppage time when Nathan Ake forced a sharp save from Bounou.

But City got the win they craved when Nemanja Gudelj missed the decisive penalty of the shootout, striking the bar and handing Pep Guardiola a record-equaling fourth Super Cup.

It set up the tense finale, resulting in another piece of silverware added to Guardiola's vast collection.

Djokovic Wins In Cincinnati On USA Singles Return

Novak Djokovic eased to victory at the Cincinnati Open in his first singles match in the United States in two years.

The 23-times Grand Slam champion had been unable to compete in the US over Covid protocols.

But rules for unvaccinated foreign travellers were relaxed in May, enabling him to return to competition.

He won the first set 6-4 against Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who later retired with a back issue.

The victory was the 36-year-old's Serb's first-time playing singles in Cincinnati since 2019. However, on Tuesday, he lost in doubles when he and compatriot Nikola Cacic were beaten by Britain's Jamie Murray and Michael Venus of New Zealand.

Elsewhere, Australian qualifier Max Purcell beat third seed Casper Ruud in three sets for his first victory over a top-10-ranked player.

Purcell, the world number 70, saved six out of seven break points to win 6-4 3-6 6-4 and set up a meeting with three-time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka.

The Swiss former world number three continued his return to form with a 6-3 6-4 win over American 16th seed Frances Tiafoe.

Sixth seed Jannik Sinneralso bowed out, losing 6-4 7-6 (7-1) to Serbian Dusan Lajovic.

Russian third seed Daniil Medvedev moved into the last 16 with a 6-3 6-2 win over Italy's Lorenzo Musetti.

Medvedev, who claimed the title in 2019 before reaching the US Open final, faces Germany's Alexander Zverev next.

England beat Australia to set up Spain showdown in their first Women’s World Cup final

England has made more history by reaching their first Women’s World Cup final, defeating Australia 3-1 to set up a match against Spain on Sunday.

The pre-match stroll centered on who would be regarded the underdog – the Euro 2022 champions or tournament co-hosts – as well as the two countries’ strong sporting history.

And it all added up to an exciting semi-final at Stadium Australia. Ella Toone (36) curled in a beautiful attempt as England drew first blood after the Matildas conceded their first World Cup goal since the second group game against Nigeria – a stretch of well over five hours.

Australia’s talismanic captain, Sam Kerr, returned to the XI and had her inevitable say in the 63rd minute, blasting home a spectacular shot from roughly 25 yards.

But England’s tournament pedigree began to shine through shortly after, with Lauren Hemp (71) putting the Lionesses back ahead before Alessia Russo (86) secured their place in Sunday’s showpiece final against Spain.

While co-hosts Australia, who had a fantastic home crowd in Sydney, can no longer win the tournament, they can finish third when they meet Sweden in the play-off on Saturday.
