Leicester Set To Name Man City’s Maresca As Manager

Enzo Maresca, the accomplished assistant coach of treble-winning Manchester City, is on the verge of becoming the new manager of Leicester City after reaching an agreement with the Foxes.

According to reports the 43-year-old Italian is expected to be officially named as the club's manager as early as Friday. This news comes just six days after Manchester City's triumphant Champions League victory.

Maresca will be taking over from interim boss Dean Smith, who struggled to steer the team to success with only two wins in eight games during their failed attempt to stay in the Premier League. Smith assumed the role in April after Brendan Rodgers' departure following his four-year tenure as Leicester City's manager.

For Maresca, this move to the King Power Stadium marks the end of a highly successful year as part of Pep Guardiola's coaching staff. It is his second stint at Manchester City, having previously served as the coach of their Under-23s team. However, his previous experience as the manager of Parma in 2021 was less fruitful, with only four wins in 13 games following their relegation from Serie A.

Leicester City's relegation from the Premier League concludes a disappointing season, in which they finished 18th in the table with only nine victories. This marks their return to the Championship after a decade in the top flight.

The club's relegation comes as a stark contrast to their unprecedented success over the past decade. Following their promotion as Championship title winners in 2014, Leicester City remarkably went on to win the Premier League two years later.

They further achieved notable milestones, including reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League, winning the FA Cup, and making it to the semi-finals of a European competition for the first time in 2022.

Former Chelsea Player, Manager Hollins Dies At 76

Hollins, who made his debut in 1963, holds an impressive record of 592 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 64 goals during his two spells at Stamford Bridge.

He was an integral part of the team that achieved remarkable success, including winning the FA Cup, European Cup Winners' Cup, and League Cup in his first stint with the club, which concluded in 1975.

Regarded as a hero by Chelsea fans, Hollins left an indelible mark on the club. Chelsea board member Daniel Finkelstein expressed his admiration, saying, "He was at the heart of one of Chelsea's greatest teams and, in addition to contributing to its trophy success, he embodied its spirit."

Hollins, ranking fifth on Chelsea's all-time appearances list, also represented QPR and Arsenal before returning to Stamford Bridge in 1983 for his final playing spell. He earned one cap for England in 1967.

Following his playing career, Hollins took on managerial roles at various clubs, including Swansea, Rochdale, and Stockport. He served as Chelsea's manager from 1985 to 1988.

Chris Hollins, John's son, speaking on behalf of the family, shared their sentiments: "John was always modest about his role in Chelsea's history. He joined the club at the age of 15 and went on to win trophies with those incredible teams of the '60s and '70s.

He had many stories, but he always emphasized how much he loved stepping onto the pitch at the Bridge and wearing the famous blue shirt. We will miss him as a husband, a father, and a grandfather, and we will forever be proud of his accomplishments in the game."

I Am 100% Committed To England – Rashford

Manchester United's Marcus Rashford has addressed criticism and confirmed his unwavering dedication to the England national team.

However, England manager Gareth Southgate supported Rashford's decision at the time. Rashford clarified that the trip was intended to allow him to rest and recover, expressing his full commitment to representing his country.

He emphasized that external opinions do not affect him. Currently preparing for England's upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers, Rashford remains focused on his responsibilities and aims to contribute to the team's success.

Despite recent losses, Rashford believes that consistent performance and a dedicated approach will lead to victories, highlighting the achievements of other successful teams. He also called for better player welfare and rest periods within the demanding football calendar, acknowledging the strain it places on athletes.

Rashford's dedication and determination serve as a positive example for his fellow players, aiming to propel England to success in future tournaments.
