Nick Kyrgios Withdraws From Wimbledon Due To Wrist Injury

Nick Kyrgios, last year's Wimbledon finalist, has unfortunately been forced to withdraw from this year's tournament due to a wrist injury.

In a statement, Kyrgios shared his disappointment, saying, "I'm really sad to say that I have to withdraw from Wimbledon this year."

He explained that he experienced wrist pain during his comeback in Mallorca and, as a precaution, had the injury scanned. The results revealed a torn ligament in his wrist, leaving him with insufficient time to recover and manage the injury ahead of the Grand Slam.

Expressing his determination to return, Kyrgios thanked his fans for their unwavering support. As the 30th seed, he was scheduled to face David Goffin on Monday. However, a lucky loser will take his place in the draw, to be decided on Monday morning.

Kyrgios' participation in Wimbledon was already limited, as he had only played one Tour-level match since undergoing knee surgery in January. Unfortunately, his hopes for a successful campaign at the prestigious tournament have been dashed by this latest setback. While there were initial doubts about his fitness, Kyrgios remained optimistic about his chances before ultimately having to withdraw.

Despite expressing satisfaction with his fitness on the eve of the event, the Australian tennis player has been plagued by injuries this year.

"I still think there are some question marks. Obviously five-set tennis is a completely different beast altogether," Kyrgios had said.

"I look at my preparations last year coming in, I probably had the most ideal preparation possible. It couldn't be any different this year.

"Again, I'm not going to discredit the work I've put in for the past six months just trying to maintain my fitness, get back on court. I've been hitting with some really good players this week and my body is feeling okay.

"I'm going to take it one day at a time. I'm not going to look forward and put unfair expectations on myself. I'm just going to try to do everything I can, prepare, go out there and play some good tennis.

"I've been really disciplined throughout that time. I barely missed any sort of part of the process. I've been working really hard. I've been trying to do everything possible. I feel probably as good as I could feel at the moment.

Obviously my body was just crying out for some sort of rest. I needed to do what I had to do. It’s been brutal. It’s been hard.”

Yaya Toure Wanted Man City To Sign Sadio Mane

Former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure recently disclosed that he had suggested the club sign Senegal forward Sadio Mane during his time at City.

Mane had an impressive stint at Southampton from 2014 to 2016, scoring 21 goals in 67 Premier League appearances before joining Liverpool for a fee of £34 million.

Mane went on to become a crucial part of Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side, contributing significantly to their success, including winning the Champions League in 2019 and securing Liverpool's first Premier League title in the 2019-20 season.

Expressing his admiration for Mane, Toure stated, "I always wanted to play with him."

Toure, who spent eight years at Manchester City from 2010 to 2018, winning the club's first Premier League title and the FA Cup, shared his efforts to persuade the club's management to acquire Mane during his time at Southampton. However, the move did not materialize.

Reflecting on Mane's subsequent success at Liverpool under Klopp, Toure acknowledged the German manager's astute decision to sign him, remarking on Mane's brilliance as a player.

Following his successful tenure at Liverpool, Mane joined Bayern Munich in June 2022 for a transfer fee of £35 million, leaving behind an impressive record of 120 goals in 269 games and six major honors won at Anfield.

Toure also commended Mane as a role model for his charitable work beyond football, citing him as a "big example" in that regard.

Reports have emerged indicating that former Super Eagles captain, Nwankwo Kanu, is being considered as the new chairman of Enyimba, the reigning champions of the Nigeria Premier League.

Enyimba's participation in the upcoming CAF Champions League adds further significance to this potential appointment. The club, known as the Aba giants, has a proud history and a strong fan base. With their eyes set on continental glory once again, having a figure like Kanu at the helm could prove to be a strategic move for the team's aspirations.
