These ten songs are perfect for celebrating the Super Eagles.

In the 2024 AFCON, the Super Eagles are ascending to greatness.

The Super Eagles, the national football team of Nigeria, are playing their way into the championship game of the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, raising the national flag high.

This week’s Throwback Thursday features ten timeless tunes that have proven to provide the perfect soundtrack for Nigerian football fans’ most treasured moments.

1. Austino Milado – Super Eagles Carry Go (Walele)

The song highlights the accomplishments of Nigerian football teams at previous competitions, mentioning notable individuals who had a significant impact at the time. Even after several decades, the Nigerian Supporters Club still considers it their theme song.

2. Naira Marley – Issa Goal feat. Olamide & Lil Kesh

Following the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualification, Naira Marley collaborated with Olamide and Lil Kesh to produce the hit song “Issa Goal.”

Every goal the Super Eagles score is still accompanied by the same anthem.

The song has gained a lot of momentum as the World Cup draws near and Nigerians are urging all of the Super Eagles players to make sure that every game is full of goals.

3. Small Doctor- Penalty

Small Doctor’s hit song “Penalty” is the perfect way to commemorate the Eagles’ success after Nigerians defeated South Africa in a penalty shootout.

4. 2baba & Omawunmi – Power of Naija

Corporate Nigeria took notice of the national team’s qualification for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and leading beverage manufacturer Guinness composed a theme song featuring superstar performers 2baba and Omawunmi to both celebrate and alert the world to the “Power of Naija.”

The song is one of the well-written pieces that highlights the potential for greatness in everyone of us. It was produced by renowned producer Cobhams Asuquo, who also contributed vocal assistance.

5. Banky W & M.I Abaga – Waving Flag

A remix of K-naan’s “Waving Flag” was done by Banky W and M.I. Abaga ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The Super Eagles’ performance in representing Nigeria in international competitions is captured in the song.

6. Flavour – Big Baller

Hitmaker Flavour made a comeback with his popular song “Big Baller,” a blend of Afrobeats and Ogene that doubles as a celebration song for spectacular football performances like the Super Eagles’ game in South Africa.

7. Kizz Daniel feat Tekno – Buga

With his huge smash single “Buga,” Kizz Daniel had the entire continent in a chokehold in 2022. It’s an ideal song to celebrate Nigeria’s 2024 AFCON success because of its thrilling celebration dance, which consists of high shoulders and a slow walk of victory.

8. Asake & Olamide – Amapiano

Nigerian supporters referred to the Super Eagles matchup against South Africa as a fight for possession of the Amapiano, and it was certainly a contender for the championship.

Nigerian supporters have basically rebranded Amapiano “Ourpiano” following Super Eagle’s victory. Asake & Olamide’s Grammy-nominated song “Amapiano” is the song elect to commemorate this achievement.

9. Lagbaja – Konko Below

With his hit song “Konkon Below,” Nigerian music maestro Lagbaja had his countrymen swaying and moving in a rhythmic manner.

The song is still a popular choice for getting people excited for big national events like the Super Eagles’ excellent performance at the 2024 AFCON.

10. Majeed – Let’s Do It Again

The NFF and Majeeed, an Afropop group, collaborated to release the tournament’s teamed song prior to the 2024 AFCON. The song gives supporters hope as the Super Eagles are just one game away from winning the trophy. It was written to encourage Nigeria’s pursuit of a fourth AFCON title.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles Soar Past South Africa into AFCON Final

Super Eagles of Nigeria are through to the final of the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Cote D’ivoire.

Kelechi Iheanacho scored the winning penalty as Nigeria booked their place in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with a 4-2 shootout win over South Africa.

The game in Bouake finished 1-1 following a remarkable end to normal time which involved the referee going to his video monitor to disallow a Victor Osimhen strike which would have put Nigeria two nil up – and instead awarding a penalty to South Africa.

Teboho Mokoena converted from the spot in the 90th minute to send the game into a goalless period of extra time where Bafana Bafana defender Grant Kekana was sent off late on.

But Mokoena was one of two South African players to see their spot-kicks saved by goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali as the Super Eagles triumphed to reach Sunday’s final, where they will play Ivory Coast after the hosts beat DR Congo.

William Troost-Ekong had opened the scoring for the Eagles with a penalty midway through the second half, and will now be looking to captain Nigeria to their fourth continental title – and a first since 2013.

The Super Eagles are gunning for their 4th AFCON title. Their previous wins came in 1980, 1994 and 2013.

February 7, 2024 Man United Legend Advises Rashford To Leave The Club

Man United Legend Advises Rashford To Leave The Club

Former Manchester United star Lee Sharpe has reportedly advised Marcus Rashford to consider leaving if he's not fully behind manager Erik ten Hag.

Rashford, 25, caused a stir by skipping training the day after being spotted in a Belfast nightclub, fueling rumours of a tequila-fueled binge with an old teammate. Despite performing well in recent matches, including scoring against Wolves, Sharpe expressed concern that Rashford's actions suggest a lack of support for Ten Hag.

Speaking to Lucky Block via Goal, Sharpe questioned Rashford's commitment to the club and suggested any dissatisfaction with management or the club's direction could affect his performance. Sharpe emphasised the need for fully dedicated players to the team and the manager.

While acknowledging he doesn't know Rashford personally, Sharpe believes only Rashford knows the true state of his United career. Rashford has faced criticism for not matching his previous season's goal-scoring prowess, managing only five goals and six assists in 28 matches this season.

Despite United's current sixth-place standing and a four-match unbeaten streak, questions linger about Rashford's form and commitment. United is scheduled to face Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday, February 11th.

Victor Osimhen Cleared To Play Against South Africa In AFCON Semi-Final

Good news for Super Eagles fans, as Victor Osimhen has been given the green light to participate in Wednesday's semi-final showdown against South Africa at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Osimhen's availability for the crucial match was uncertain after he missed the team's journey to Bouake on Monday night due to abdominal discomfort.

During his pre-match press conference earlier today, head coach Jose Peseiro refrained from confirming Osimhen's participation, stating, "Until now, I cannot answer right because it is about health. This afternoon, I can know better if he can play or not."

However, recent reports indicate Osimhen is en route to Bouake to rejoin his teammates. Despite his initial setback, the 25-year-old forward has been a key player for the Super Eagles, contributing one goal and one assist in five appearances at the ongoing AFCON 2023 finals.

The Super Eagles will undergo their final training session tonight at the Stade Annexe, Bouake, gearing up for their clash against the Bafana Bafana. With Osimhen's return to the squad, Nigerian fans can look forward to an exciting and competitive semi-final match.
