EPL: Cole Palmer, Two Other Chelsea Players Doubtful For Arsenal Clash

Chelsea may face the absence of Cole Palmer in their upcoming away match against Premier League leaders Arsenal on Tuesday. Pochettino informed reporters on Monday that Palmer is struggling to recover from illness, casting doubt on his availability for the game.

Pochettino stated, "Today, no (he cannot play). We will see tomorrow morning. Today, I don’t believe he can be involved. Even if he is good tomorrow, maybe he is not in a condition to play. We hope he can recover from this situation and be involved with the team."

Palmer, who featured in Saturday’s 1-0 FA Cup semi-final loss to Manchester City, has been a standout performer for Chelsea, being the joint-top scorer in the Premier League this season with 20 goals, alongside City’s Erling Haaland. His potential absence would be a setback for Chelsea as they aim to maintain their hopes of European qualification, while it could provide Arsenal with a significant advantage in their title pursuit, aiming to claim it for the first time in two decades.

In addition to Palmer's uncertainty, defenders Malo Gusto and Ben Chilwell are also doubtful for the Emirates clash. Chelsea currently sit in ninth place in the league standings with 47 points from 31 matches, trailing seventh-placed Manchester United by three points but with a game in hand.

Minister: Expect Appointment of Super Eagles Coach Within One to Two Weeks

Senator John Enoh, the Minister of Sports, has informed Nigerian football enthusiasts that the Super Eagles, the country's senior men's national team, will appoint a new coach within the next one or two weeks.

Following the non-renewal of Jose Peseiro's contract after the Africa Cup of Nations in February, where Nigeria finished second, the team has been without a permanent coach. Finidi George temporarily took charge for two recent friendly games against Ghana and Mali.

During a televised interview on Thursday night, Senator Enoh expressed concern over the current coaching vacancy and reassured fans that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is actively working to resolve this. He highlighted the urgency of the situation, especially with upcoming qualifiers in June and the need to avoid missing another World Cup, referencing Nigeria's absence from the last tournament.

The minister acknowledged the shaky start in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with disappointing draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, emphasizing the critical need for improvement to ensure qualification for the next World Cup. Enoh remains confident that the NFF understands the high expectations from Nigerians and is committed to securing a competent coach soon to stabilize the team and build on their recent performance at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Heartland Get NPFL Approval To Return To Home Ground

Heartland has received temporary authorization to hold their remaining home matches of the season at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri. This decision comes after noticeable improvements were observed on their pitch during a second inspection conducted within the last two weeks. Consequently, the club will host their Matchday 31 fixture against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) at this venue.

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) had initially withdrawn the club's earlier provisional approval at the beginning of the second phase of the season due to observed deterioration of the pitch. Before this decision, the Naze Millionaires had been playing their home games at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.

Troost-Ekong Gives Nigerian National Team Allowances to Children in Akwa Ibom

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, has made a generous gesture by pledging his future camp allowances and match bonuses to support aspiring footballers in Akwa Ibom. The 30-year-old center-back, who plays for PAOK Thessaloniki and hails from Akwa Ibom State, announced his donation on Monday.

With a Dutch mother and a Nigerian father, Troost-Ekong maintains strong ties to his Ibibio roots and is committed to giving back to the community that shaped his family history. Widely respected among Akwa Ibom natives, Troost-Ekong's stellar performances for the national team, including his leadership as captain during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, have earned him admiration.

Despite Nigeria's loss in the final, Troost-Ekong emerged as the tournament's top scorer with three goals and was named MVP. His achievements were recognized by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, who honored him for his outstanding performance at the AFCON. During a reception at the Government House in Uyo, Troost-Ekong presented an Eagles jersey to the Governor as a gesture of gratitude for the state's support.

Although he was eligible to represent both the Netherlands and Nigeria internationally due to his heritage, Troost-Ekong ultimately chose to play for Nigeria. He made his senior debut for the Super Eagles in June 2015 and has since earned 71 caps, scoring seven goals.
