NYSC DG Announces Corps Members Will Get N77,000 Monthly Starting in February

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has announced that starting in February 2025, corps members will receive a new monthly allowance of N77,000.

Ahmed made the announcement on Thursday while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina State. He confirmed that the increase has been included in the 2025 Federal Government budget and will take effect once the budget is passed.

“January has ended, but once the budget is approved, you’ll begin receiving N77,000 starting next month (February), instead of the usual N33,000,” Ahmed stated.

He also emphasized the government's dedication to the welfare and security of corps members, urging them to repay the gesture by serving with dedication. The NYSC DG reassured the corps members that they would not be posted to areas facing security challenges, stating, “We will not send our corps members to any areas with security concerns. Wherever they are sent, it will be a safe and secure location for them to serve.”

NIS Rescues 21 Minors from Traffickers Headed to Niger Republic

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Yobe State has rescued 21 minors suspected to be victims of human trafficking at a checkpoint in the state.

The children, aged between 7 and 15, were found in a Toyota Hiace bus (registration number 10B-87GM) at the Geidam control point in Dunari, near the border with Niger Republic.

In a statement on Thursday, the NIS Command revealed that the bus was transporting the minors from Labule and Ibeto towns in Magama Local Government Area, Niger State, to Maine Soroa in Niger Republic.

According to Yobe State Comptroller Mr. S.S. Jega, the children had no knowledge of their destination and lacked valid travel documents or identification, raising suspicions of human trafficking.

"We suspect a case of human trafficking due to the absence of proper travel documents and supporting papers," Jega stated.

The NIS confirmed that the minors would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and necessary action. Additionally, their guardian, Abubakar Saidu, a 28-year-old Islamic school teacher from Anaba, Magama Local Government Area, Niger State, was apprehended in connection with the case.

Authorities are continuing investigations to determine the full extent of the trafficking network and ensure justice for the victims.
