PDP Chieftain Ewoh Accuses Wike of Never Winning Popular Votes, Labels Him a ‘Destroyer’ – Fubara

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Nnam Robinson Ewoh, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of being a "destroyer."

In an interview with Symfoni on Wednesday, the former Rivers lawmaker alleged that Wike has never won any election through popular votes, claiming the ex-governor relies on violence to secure victories.

In a viral video from the interview, Ewoh expressed confidence that, despite the current rift between Wike and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Fubara would secure a second term in 2027.

He stated, "Wike, historically, is a destroyer. He has wrecked the PDP and everyone he has supported. Wike can’t bring anything good or new to this state."

Ewoh further claimed, "For Wike to win elections, they have to write the results for him. He’s never won through popular vote. Wike doesn’t believe in free elections, and he cannot compete in a fair electoral process.

"Whether Wike is involved or not doesn’t matter. What will determine Governor Fubara’s return in 2027 are the votes from River’s people, not Wike’s. Wike has only one vote, and that won’t be enough to affect the governor’s chances."

Ewoh also argued that Wike’s involvement in the PDP has led to the party's decline, adding, "Since Wike began playing a key role in the PDP, the party has been going downhill. He’s never been a success story—only a disaster for the PDP. Fubara will definitely have a second term, and nobody is talking about Wike in this state."

He concluded by advising President Bola Tinubu to be cautious in dealing with Wike, warning that Wike may eventually turn against him as political dynamics shift.

Nine Months Later, Ibadan Explosion Victims Call for Makinde’s Intervention

Residents affected by the Bodija explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State, on January 16, 2024, expressed their frustration on Wednesday, revealing they are still unable to return to their homes nine months after the incident. They are now urging both the state and federal governments to increase their efforts to ease their suffering, as many continue to live in temporary accommodations.

The explosion resulted in five fatalities, 77 injuries of varying severity, and damage to 58 houses on Dejo Oyelese Street. Speaking on behalf of the victims at Dilay Event Centre in Ibadan, Yakubu Adedigba, Chairman of the Dejo Oyelese Vigilante Group, highlighted the dire circumstances faced by the residents.

“As patriotic and loyal Nigerians, we are thankful for the previous support from the Oyo State government. However, we urgently call on both the federal and state governments to do more to alleviate the suffering of the Dejo Oyelese Vigilante Group members,” he stated.

He emphasized the distress they are experiencing, stating, “It is an understatement to say that we are in distress. Many of us have not been able to return to our homes and are still squatting with relatives and friends. Some of the homes destroyed by the blast are now overgrown with weeds and have become havens for wild animals. Most of us are senior citizens with limited resources, and we cannot afford to rebuild our homes at this stage of our lives.”

Sanwo-Olu Reaffirms Lagos’ Readiness to Launch Medical University

The Lagos State Government has confirmed that plans to establish a dedicated medical university are in the final stages. This will see the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Ikeja, transformed into a full-fledged institution, soon to be named Lagos State University of Health and Medical Sciences.

With this development, Lagos State will increase its number of state-owned universities from one to four. The new medical university will join Lagos State University (LASU), Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), and Lagos State University of Education (LASUED).

In recent years, the state has upgraded its polytechnic in Ikorodu and colleges of education in Ijanikin and Epe to university status, bringing the total number of state universities to three, with the fourth underway.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu shared this update during the Lagos Physical Planning Summit on Tuesday, while responding to observations made by his predecessor, Babatunde Fashola, on the importance of leveraging veto power in cabinet meetings to ensure optimal outcomes for the state.
