The acquisition of drones is part of the proactive measures undertaken by the state government in collaboration with Lagos and Oyo states, aiming to monitor activities on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and ensure swift responses to emergencies. Trained personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) will operate these drones.

EFCC Declares Yahaya Bello Wanted Over Alleged N80.2b Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a warrant for the arrest of Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi, over alleged financial misdeeds amounting to N80.2 billion.

The Nigerian anti-corruption body has appealed to the public to provide any information on Bello’s current location either to them or to the nearest police station. The announcement was made through a post on the EFCC's Facebook page titled ‘Ex-Gov Yahaya Bello Wanted By the EFCC’.

This development comes as the latest episode in the ongoing conflict between Bello and the agency. Earlier in the day, Bello was notably absent from a Federal High Court session in Abuja, prompting Judge Emeka Nwite to postpone the case and call for an alternative method of serving Bello to facilitate his forthcoming trial on charges of money laundering.

EFCC Asserts Authority as Ododo Escorts Bello, Urges Former Governor’s Court Appearance on Thursday

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has cautioned the public against obstructing its officers from performing their lawful duties, emphasizing that such actions constitute criminal offenses. This warning comes as the anti-graft agency remains steadfast in its determination to arraign former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, on Thursday, despite his reported removal from the scene by his predecessor, Usman Ododo, on Wednesday.

In a statement signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC reaffirmed its intention to bring the ex-governor before the court, following a day spent attempting to apprehend him. Oyewale referenced Section 38(2)(a)(b) of the EFCC Establishment Act, underlining the legal repercussions for obstructing the Commission's officers.

The statement highlighted the agency's growing concern over individuals and groups resorting to unlawful tactics, such as hiring thugs, to impede EFCC operations, warning that such actions will not be tolerated and will be met with appropriate penalties.

The EFCC reiterated its plan to arraign Bello before a Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, alongside three other suspects, Ali Bello, Dauda Suleiman, and Abdulsalam Hudu, on charges of money laundering amounting to N80,246,470,088.88. The decision to arraign Bello follows a warrant of arrest and an enrolment order granted by the court on April 17, 2024.

Despite facing resistance during the execution of the arrest warrant, notably from the current Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, who allegedly facilitated Bello's removal from his residence in Abuja, the EFCC maintained its composure and opted to proceed with the arraignment.

The agency emphasized that Bello, like anyone else, is subject to the law and will be brought to justice expeditiously.
