Tragic Fuel Queue Altercation: Young Man Fatally Shot in Lagos

A young man named Toheeb Eniasa was tragically shot and killed at a petrol station belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited in Obalende, Ikoyi, Lagos State, leading to grief within his family. The incident, which occurred late Wednesday, has left residents in the area shaken.

Eniasa was reportedly in a queue at the petrol station when an altercation arose with two men, believed to be military officers, who attempted to bypass the queue. Witnesses recounted that Eniasa confronted the men, insisting they join the queue like everyone else. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in Eniasa being shot by one of the men, who then fled the scene.

Fuel scarcity has plagued Nigeria in recent days, causing increased transport fares and long queues at filling stations. Eyewitnesses alleged that the officers involved were from the Department of State Services (DSS), based on their branded polo shirts. Residents described chaotic scenes at the petrol station, with vehicles being set on fire and people fleeing in fear. Efforts to reach the station's branch manager for comment were unsuccessful.

The state police public relations officer confirmed the incident, stating that Eniasa was killed and two vehicles were burnt. However, the identity of the shooter remains unknown as investigations continue. In response to the incident, a spokesperson for the DSS denied any involvement of their officers, urging further investigation to uncover the truth.

14-Year-Old Daniel Anjorin Named Victim In London Sword Attack

UK authorities have identified the victim of a fatal sword attack in London as 14-year-old Daniel Anjorin, shedding light on the tragic incident that occurred this week.

Anjorin, a British-Nigerian student, was enrolled at Bancroft’s private school in Woodford Green, the same school attended by Grace O’Malley-Kumar, a victim of a previous attack in Nottingham. The attack took place on Tuesday morning as Anjorin was leaving his home for school when he was assaulted by an assailant wielding what appeared to be a Samurai-type sword.

Police swiftly intervened, tasering and apprehending the suspect, a 36-year-old man, who remains in custody on suspicion of murder. Bancroft’s, the independent school attended by Anjorin, expressed profound grief over his death, describing him as a dedicated scholar with a gentle nature.

The Metropolitan Police provided further details of the incident, stating that it began with the accused crashing a van into a house fence and subsequently attacking a 33-year-old man before stabbing him in the neck. Another man, aged 35, was assaulted inside a nearby property before Anjorin was fatally injured.

Despite police intervention within 12 minutes of the first emergency call, the suspect resisted arrest, causing serious injuries to two police officers, both of whom required surgery. The attack, while tragic, is not believed to be terrorism-related. It occurred against a backdrop of increasing knife-related violence in the UK, coinciding with upcoming local elections where public safety is a prominent issue.

Anjorin’s death is the second tragedy to befall Bancroft, following the killing of Grace O’Malley-Kumar in Nottingham last year. O’Malley-Kumar was among three victims stabbed to death by Valdo Calocane, who was subsequently sentenced to indefinite detention in a psychiatric hospital.

DSTV Tariff Hike: Court Orders Lawyer To Paste Restraining Order At MultiChoice Office

The Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal in Abuja has instructed that its temporary injunction, preventing MultiChoice Nigeria Limited from raising DSTV tariffs, be displayed prominently at the company's corporate headquarters and all known branch addresses nationwide.

Chairman Saratu Shafii, in an order dated April 29, 2024, specified that the directive should also be conveyed via MultiChoice's email, social media platforms, and other public communication channels. This interim measure was granted in response to a complaint by Abuja-based lawyer Festus Onifade, who objected to MultiChoice's announced tariff hike for its DStv and Gotv packages set to take effect from May 1.

Onifade had requested the tribunal to temporarily restrain MultiChoice from implementing the price increase pending further legal proceedings. The tribunal initially halted MultiChoice's tariff adjustments pending the outcome of the legal process. However, when attempts to serve MultiChoice at its Abuja office were allegedly rebuffed by staff, the tribunal issued a substituted service order under relevant legal provisions.

Under this order, the tribunal directed that the original injunction be displayed at MultiChoice's headquarters and all known branch locations nationwide. Additionally, the documents must be transmitted to MultiChoice's official email, social media platforms, and other publicly accessible communication channels, as well as posted at the tribunal's communication outlet.
