Ooni Of Ife Meets With President Buhari Over Security Issues

Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, has met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Presidential Villa over the state of insecurity in the country.

 

The Ooni who spoke on behalf of other traditional leaders in the region also decried the insecurity in the south-west region of the country caused by those he described as bad eggs and not necessarily Fulanis.

Speaking with State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, the monarch noted that the drum of war is sounding loud across the country.

President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has called on the intelligence community in Africa to tighten the loop against illicit financial flows, just as he attributed rising security challenges to sponsorship by those who profit from illegal financial activities.

He gave the task at the opening session of the 16th Conference of the Committee of Intelligence and Security Services of Africa (CISSA) in Abuja.

Boko Haram Insurgents Kills Six Soldiers And A Villager In An Ambush On Maiduguri-Damaturu Road, In Borno State

A colonel, a captain, four soldiers and a villager have been killed when Boko Haram fighters struck on Maiduguri-Damaturu Road near Jakana community in Borno State.

 

It was gathered that the terrorists waylaid some commercial vehicles along the road near a military checkpoint and using them as a cover to open fire on the soldiers.

 

A villager was killed in the gunfire while two others were injured; five soldiers said to be at the checkpoint also died while trying to repel the terrorists’ attack.

Nigerian Writer Wins UK’s Most Prestigious Prize For Science Fiction Novels.

British-born Nigerian writer, TADE THOMPSON has won the Arthur C Clarke award, the UK’s most prestigious prize for science fiction novels at a ceremony in Foyles bookshop in London.

 

THOMPSON’s novel, Rosewater, an alien invasion novel set in a future Africa, was submitted alongside 124 other novels, the highest number ever submitted for the prize, to emerge as the winner.

 

Rosewater bested five other books including including AHMED SAADAWI’s Frankenstein in Baghdad, SUE BURKE’s Semiosis, YOON HA LEE’s Revenant Gun, SIMON STÅLENHAG’s illustrated novel, The Electric State and ALIYA WHITELEY’s The Loosening Skin.

 

The award came with a trophy and the £2,019 prize.
