Five People Injured In Gas Explosion In Port Harcourt Mall

Five people have been injured following a gas explosion at a shopping mall in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, yesterday.

Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers Police Command, Deputy Superintendent NNAMDI OMONI, who confirmed the incident said the explosion, which occurred in the kitchen area of the mall, left five persons seriously injured.

The police spokesperson added that the victims are currently receiving treatment at the Braithwaite Memorial Hospital, and activities have returned to normal.

The DSP also said that investigations are ongoing to unravel the cause of the gas explosion.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has said that its helicopter crashed in the process of landing while returning from an anti-banditry combat mission in the Northwest Theater under Operation HADARAN DAJI.

A statement on Wednesday in Abuja by NAF’s spokesman, Air Commodore IBIKUNLE DARAMOLA, said that details of the cause of the incident, which occurred at the Katsina Airport at about 3.30pm, were still scanty.

There was, however, no loss of life, either of persons on board the helicopter or on the ground.

Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa withdraws from Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal

The Chairman of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, has withdrawn from the tribunal.

You will recall that the Peoples Democratic Party had alleged that Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa will not be fair in sitting over the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal due to relationship of her family members with the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Although the five-man panel of the tribunal, in a unanimous ruling dismissed the application, Bulkachuwa said she was withdrawing for “personal reasons.”
