Police Arraigns Six People Over The #Revolutionnow

The police have arraigned five people and a lawyer over the #RevolutionNow protests, in Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

 

The police charged EHIS OMOSHOMIO, GABRIEL OJUMAH, JUWON SANYAOLU, STANLEY ANOBI, ELIAS OZIKPU, KENECHUKWU and UKACHUKWU with two counts of unlawful assembly and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

 

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

Human rights lawyer, FEMI FALANA has expressed disappointment that the convener of  #RevolutionNow protests, OMOYELE SOWORE, has not been arraigned four days after his arrest.

 

The Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the February 2019 elections was arrested in the early hours of Saturday by operatives of the Department of State Services in a hotel in Lagos.

 

Speaking on the development, FALANA said he expected SOWORE to have been arraigned on Monday because, by law, a suspect should not be kept in detention without arraignment within 48 hours of arrest.

Dss Urges Court To Allow Detention Of Sowore For 90 Days

The Department of State Services, DSS has approached a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja seeking an order to detain OMOYELE SOWORE, convener of the “Revolution Now” movement beyond 48 hours as specified by the country’s law.

The country’s domestic intelligence agency filed the ex parte motion, before Justice TAIWO TAIWO on Tuesday.

Counsel to the DSS, G. O AGBADUA, informed the court that the service needs to detain SOWORE for 90 days in order to complete its investigation of the activist.
