Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu Sends Final List Of Cabinet Nominees

Governor BABAJIDE SANWO-OLU has transmitted the final list of his cabinet nominees to the State House of Assembly.

 

This is coming four weeks after the Governor sent the first batch of the list to the lawmakers for screening.

 

A statement by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, GboyegaAkosilesaid 13 commissioners and special advisers nominees made the list.

 

The governor’s media aide said the selection process was rigorous because of the need to constitute the best team that would serve Lagos in line with the administration’s vision of delivering a city-state that will rank among the top most liveable cities in the world”.

 

The list includes Spokesman of the Lagos state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, JOE IGBOKWE, ANOFI ELEGUSHI and YETUNDE AROBIEKE among others.

Nigerian Medical Association Says Government Is Not Doing Enough In Health Sector

The President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr FRANCIS FADUYILE has lamented the lack of adequate support by the government in the nation’s health sector.

Dr FADUYILE was reacting to the recent travelling of the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IBRAHIM EL-ZAKZAKY and his wife ZEENAT to India for medical treatment.

El-Zakzaky and his wife arrived in New Delhi in the company of some family members and security operatives based on a leave granted by a Kaduna high court.

In an interview with Inspiration FM, the NMA president said though people are free to seek medical care anywhere, the government should pay more attention to the health sector in Nigeria.

Dr FADUYILE gave some suggestions on how the government can borrow a leaf from the countries who are benefitting from medical tourism.

PDP Board Chairman Says Ruga Would Boost Food Security

The Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, WALID JIBRIN has urged Nigerians to embrace the establishment of Rural Grazing Areas (RUGA) programme of the Federal Government.

 

JIBRIN told newsmen at his Nasarawa country home that the proposed settlement policy for herdsmen would promote peace and security in the country.

 

He also explained that the programme would boost food security and improve on the health and standard of living of rural communities.

 

JIBRIN, who is also the Sarkin of Fulani in Nasarawa state, commended the federal government for introducing the RUGA programme in the country considering its importance.

 

The PDP chieftain also called on the Igbo and Yoruba ethnic groups to embrace the programme in the interest of national development.

President Muhammadu Buhari Stops Forex For Food Importation

President MUHAMMADU BUHARI hosted the All Progressives Congress governors to a sallah lunch at his country home in Daura, Katsina state.

At the event, the president directed the Central Bank of Nigeria to stop providing foreign exchange for importation of food into the country.

He said this was based on the steady improvement in agricultural production, and attainment of full food security.

President BUHARI said the foreign reserve will be conserved and utilised strictly for diversification of the economy, and not for encouraging more dependence on foreign food import bills.

In a statement by Senior Special Assistant to the President
on Media & Publicity, GARBA SHEHU, the President noted that some states like Kebbi, Ogun, Lagos and Ebonyi had already taken advantage of the Federal Government’s policy on agriculture with huge returns in rice farming.
