Buhari Seeks The Support Of Asian Government In Combating Piracy And Illegal Fishing

President MUHAMMADU BUHARI is seeking the support of the Asian government in combating piracy in the Gulf of Guinea and illegal fishing in that region.

The President made the request yesterday during a bilateral meeting between the Nigerian delegation and Japanese officials led by Prime Minister SHINZO ABE, on the margins of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7).

Minister of Foreign Affairs, GEOFFREY ONYEAMA spoke more on the outcome of the meeting.

               

Also, the European Union signed a €50 million Memorandum of Understanding to support humanitarian and development efforts in the country’s North East region.

President Buhari Condemns Activities Of Few Nigerians In Diaspora Engaging In Crime

President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has said that few Nigerians abroad indulging in criminal activities do not represent the values of the majority of the people of the country.

 

He also called on Nigerians in diaspora engaging in criminal activities to stop henceforth.

 

The President stated this in Yokohama, Japan while meeting with leaders of the Nigerian Community living in Japan on the sidelines of the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development.

 

President BUHARI also urged Nigerians in Japan to be good ambassadors of their fatherland.

IG Of Police Orders Deployment Of Surveillance Helicopters To Major Cities In The Country

The Inspector-General of Police, MOHAMMED ADAMU, has ordered the deployment of Police aerial surveillance helicopters to major cities in the South-West and North-West of the country.

 

This is part of efforts aimed at effectively curtailing crimes in the country.

 

This comes after the murder of a catholic priest, Rev. Father, DAVID TANKO yesterday by suspected bandits in Taraba state.

 

The IGP called on Nigerians not to panic, assuring the nation that the perpetrators of the dastardly act will not go unpunished.

 

He also enjoined the people to be calm and give maximum support to the Police in the bid towards unravelling the authors of the crime and circumstances surrounding the unfortunate killing of the Priest.

Bayelsa State High Court Grants Interim Order Restraining Apc From Adopting Direct Primary Governorship Elections

A Bayelsa State High Court sitting in Yenagoa has granted an interim order restraining the All Progressives Congress from adopting direct primary for the rescheduled August 31 governorship primary.

 

Justice E. G. OMUKORO granted the order upon hearing a motion ex parte.

 

The applicants are JAPAN CHRISTOPHER, EVINSON OYINDEYINFA, ODDU OVINMIEBI and OBIRIKI ISAIAH.

 

They had sued for themselves and also on behalf of concerned members of APC in Bayelsa.
