Supreme Court Affirms Abdullahi Ganduje As Kano Governor, Aminu Tambuwal As Sokoto Governor.

A seven-man panel led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad, in a unanimous judgment, dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party’s Abba Yusuf to challenge the victory of the governor at the March 2019 poll.

 

Justice Sylvster Ngwuta, who delivered the lead judgment, held that YUSUF failed to demonstrate any cogent reason to warrant the setting aside of both the judgments of the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal.

 

The courts had both affirmed the victory of Ganduje and his party, the All Progressives Congress in the election in the state.

 

It also upheld the election of Aminu Tambuwal, candidate of the PDP, as the governor of Sokoto state.

 

Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, candidate of the APC, had filed an appeal challenging Tambuwal’s victory.

Two Killed As Another Pipeline Explodes In Abule-Egba Area Of Lagos.

A pipeline belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has exploded in the Abule-Egba area of Lagos, killing at least two persons.

 

This was confirmed by the Director-General,Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osayintolu.

 

He said the raging fire from the explosion was caused by the activities of pipeline vandals which caused panic among residents of AbuleEgba, Ile Epo and Ekoro Road.

 

This is coming less than a month after an oil pipeline running through Glory Land estate around IsheriOlofin, Egbe-Idimu local council development area of Lagos state exploded.

 

The LASEMA boss sounded a note of warning to vandals.

Yoruba Council Of Elders Angry As Miyetti Allah Kautal Says That Southwest Should Drop Operation Amotekun.

The Yoruba Council of Elders has described as provocating and unfortunate the statement credited to the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore that the Southwest should drop operation Amotekun for presidential slot in 2023.

 

Herdsmen under the umbrella of the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore on Wednesday warned Southwest governors to withdraw their support for ‘Operation Amotekun’, adding such may hurt the Southwest’s chances of getting the Presidency in 2023.

 

But in a swift reaction, the Secretary General of YCE, Dr. Kunle Olajide called on Nigerians to ignore the statement adding the South-West do not see Presidency as do or die come 2023.

He said what Nigerians should be concerned about is how to end the wave of insecurity nationwide and wondered if the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore determines who got the Presidential slot in 2023.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu Carries Out A Cabinet Reshuffle

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has carried out a cabinet reshuffle, with the appointment of three new members.

 

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Gboyega Akosile in a statement said eight cabinet portfolios affected by the redeployment include Ministries of Local Government, Special Duties, Wealth Creation and Employment, Tourism, Arts and Culture, Home Affairs as well as Waterfront Infrastructure.

 

Governor Sanwo-Olu in the minor cabinet reshuffle moved three commissioners while two Special Advisers have been assigned new roles as commissioners.

 

Affected commissioners and their new portfolios are: Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Wale Ahmed who has now been moved to Local Government and Community Affairs; Mrs. Yetunde ArobiekE, formerly Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs has been moved to the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment.

 

Also, Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf has been moved from the Ministry of Home Affairs to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture.

 

Two former Special Advisers, Anofiu Elegushi and Kabiru Ahmed are now assigned to the Ministries of Home Affairs and Waterfront Infrastructure as respectively.
