Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, Blames The Nigeria Army For Attack

Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has blamed the Nigeria Army for the Sunday night attack by Boko Haram that killed over 30 stranded travelers.

 

Governor Zulum said this while visiting the scene where Boko Haram gunmen had attacked and massacred many travelers that were stranded outside the military entrance city gate outside Maiduguri, usually locked at 6p.m.

 

The governor insisted that attack would have been prevented if the military had not withdrawn from Auno town.

Ecowas Leaders Set Up Committee On Nigeria’s Land Border Closure

The Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government has constituted a committee to study and make a full report on Nigeria’s land border closure with her neighbours.

 

The committee headed by President Roch Marc Christian Kabore of Burkina Faso.

 

According to a statement issued today by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Garba Shehu, the decision to set up the committee was agreed Sunday night in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at an extraordinary session of ECOWAS leaders convened on the margins of the 33rd AU Summit to discuss the issue and other pressing regional matters.

 

It said Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, told journalists after the three-hour closed-door session that the meeting attended by President BUHARI and chaired by the ECOWAS Chairman, President Mahamadou Issoufou of Niger Republic, also discussed West Africa′s new single currency, the Eco, and the situation in Guinea Bissau after the presidential election.

South-East Governors To Launch Its Own Security Outfit.

The South-East Governors Forum has said it would soon name a regional security outfit for the South-East geopolitical zone.

This is coming barely a month after South-West governors launched Amotekun, the Western Nigeria Security Network to combat kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes.

According to a communique released after the Forum met in Enugu on Sunday, the governors said the process for the set-up of the outfit commenced in 2019.

In a communiqué read by Forum Chairman and Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, the forum said that the State Houses of Assembly in the zone have commenced the process of enacting enabling laws to give the outfit legal backing.

The governors added that the Federal Government has been duly informed about plans to launch the outfit.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed concern over the lack of tangible progress and the worsening security and humanitarian situation in Libya.

 

President Buhari Raised These Concerns At The African Union Peace And Security Council Summit on Situations in Libya and the Sahel in Addis Ababa on Saturday.

 

A statement from the Nigerian Embassy in Addis Ababa said on Sunday that inspite the best intentions and determined efforts by this Council and the entire African Union, the devastating impact of the conflict on the Libyan people, neighbors, the Sahel and the Lake Chad regions remains alarming.
