Senate Directs Chief Of Army Staff, To Re-Establish Military Command Base.

Senate yesterday directed the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-General Tukur Buratai, to re-establish a military command base in Garkida and all major settlements bordering Sambisa Forest.

 

This followed the adoption of a motion by Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed who noted that insurgents had attacked the areas and caused devastation.

 

She said insurgents that attacked Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State stormed the area with seven gun-trucks and motorcycles on February 21, 2020.

 

According to her, three soldiers were killed in the dastardly attacks, while property worth millions of naira was burnt or destroyed including: public hospital, school, telecommunication facilities, Police stations and church.

 

The Senate also urged the North East Development Commission to rehabilitate public and religious institutions destroyed during the recent attacks by Boko Haram terrorists on communities in the state.

The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has said the resourcefulness and pedigree of the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu put in him in good stead to lead the country in 2023.

 

This was stated during a press briefing to unveil the three newly-elected state executive members.

 

While felding questions on whether TINUBU had briefed the state leadership of the party on his rumoured presidential aspiration, the new secretary, Lanre Ogunyemi said the former governor was eminently qualified and had a right to aspire to be president in 2023.

 

The other newly elected exco are Seye Oladejo who is now the Publicity Secretary, and Abimbola Ladigbolu (Assistant Legal Adviser).

South-West States Hold Public Hearing On Operation Amotekun

South-West states have held public hearings on the creation of a bill to establishsecurity outfit, Amotekun.

 

At the event in Oyo state, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in the state said the incorporation of its members will be beneficial for the development of peace in the state.

 

A former chairman of MACBAN in the state,Yaqub Bello expressed the support of Miyetti Allah, saying only “haters of truth” would oppose the Amotekun initiative.

 

In Lagos, the speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa declared that Amotekunin the South West has come to stay.

 

He said it will include the amendment of the Lagos state Neighborhood Safety Corps Agency Law 2019.

Court Begins Delivery Of Judgment In Olisa Metuh’s Trial.

The Federal High Court in Abuja is presently delivering judgement in a suit instituted against a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh.

 

Justice Okon Abang is presiding over the suit filed against Metuh by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

 

The trial judge fixed today for the judgment after taking arguments from the prosecution and defense counsels in the matter which has lasted about four years.

 

The anti-graft agency accused the former PDP spokesman of money laundering to the tune of 400 million naira.

 

He was charged alongside his company, Destra investment, with seven counts bordering on criminal diversion of the money received from the office of the former National Security Adviser, SAMBO DASUKI.

 

During their arraignment in court in January 2016, the defendants, however, pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charges.
