Ways To Avoid Being Insecure And Boost Your Confidence

Insecurity is a common problem amongst humans. It’s normal to have down days where you feel you can’t seem to do anything right. But feeling insecure about yourself all the time can take a toll on every aspect of your life, from your physical health and emotional well-being to how you perform at your job.

Below are some steps to deal with insecurity:

Affirm Your Own Value

Take inventory of everything you’re doing right. Chances are, your thoughts about yourself aren’t taking into account the hundreds of positive micro-decisions we make on a daily basis.

Remembering how you helped your neighbor with their groceries or assisted your boss during an important meeting, can help you focus on your contributions rather than shortcomings.

Channel Your Thinking into Something Positive

Insecurity is mostly psychological and it is caused by what you feel you don’t have. You may look at other people and things thy have achieved, and deep down that you want to be like those people. Don’t get it wrong, wanting to be like them is not a problem but obsessing over it breeds insecurity.

One way to defeat this is to train your mind to think positively about life and its outcome. If you feel insecure about giving a speech, say some affirming words like, “I can talk in public, I am bold, I am eloquent”, these are words of affirmation that can boost your moral. Sometimes if you are stuck in a psychological state, try to change your environment and get to a fun place to free up your mind a bit.

Take Care of Your Needs First

If you’re always looking after everyone’s needs and forgetting yours, you’re not placing value on yourself. Adding more self-care to can counter negative thoughts and build up your self-worth.

Some ways to show more love to yourself:

  • Nurture your body by getting a massage.
  • Workout at least 30mins a day.
  • Take a social media detox.
  • Practice self-compassion; talk nicely to yourself.
  • Eat regularly and prioritize sleep.

Embrace Your Awkward Self

There are character traits you think is weird about you. Appreciate and accept it with self-love. If it’s bad, work on it. There will be moments when you fumble, see it as just part of life. Accepting this fact can help you feel more comfortable about yourself. The next time you find yourself feeling embarrassed or awkward, try to forgive yourself first, accept that errors are bound to happen and then work on it.

Spend Time with People Who Love You

Surround yourself with loving, supportive people to build up your confidence and make you feel accepted for who you are.

Setup more dates and outings with the people you love. When other people tend to comment the good qualities in you, it will help you appreciate your own unique qualities and perspectives.
