NDLEA Arrests Pregnant Woman, Fake Soldier, Stops Canada, Australia-Bound Drugs

Attempts by a female passenger, Obehi Isesele, and one Emmanuel Omebere to export illicit drugs to Europe through the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, have been thwarted by narcotic officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

The agency said the suspects were arrested before they boarded their flights.

The NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a statement said, Isesele was nabbed on Saturday, September 11, 2021, during outward clearance of an Ethiopian airline flight at Gate B, Departure Hall, of the Lagos airport on her way to Milan, Italy, with 312 sachets of Tramadol, weighing 1.5 kilogrammes, concealed in crayfish and dried vegetables,

Omebere on his part was caught with 137.45 grams of the same drug concealed in foodstuffs at the Abuja airport during outward clearance of a Turkish airline flight to Istanbul, Turkey.”

According to him, efforts by traffickers to export varying sizes of consignments containing cocaine, heroin and other illicit drugs through courier firms were also reportedly foiled.

GOVERNOR MASARI UNDER FIRE OVER COMMENT ON VAT

Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, has come under heavy criticism for dismissing moves by Lagos and Rivers states to start collecting the Value Added Tax directly.

Groups, including the Pan Niger Delta Forum, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and civil rights groups, in separate interviews berated Masari over his comment on VAT.

They stated this as the Ondo State Governor and Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, stated that the move by the Federal Inland Revenue Service to amend the VAT law would not succeed.

The Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt had last month held that Rivers State had the constitutional right to collect VAT within its territory.

But the Court of Appeal in its ruling on the appeal filed by the FIRS on September 10 ordered a stay of execution of the judgment of the Federal High Court.

But in its reaction, PANDEF described comments by Masari as irresponsible.
