PSG Maintain 100% Ligue 1 Start with Victory at Metz

Achraf Hakimi scored a dramatic injury-time goal as Paris St-Germain maintained their winning start to the Ligue 1 season with victory at Metz.

Hakimi curled into the bottom corner in the 95th minute for his second strike of the match to make it seven straight wins for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

The Morocco right-back had put PSG ahead after just five minutes.

Centre-back Boubakar Kouyate headed in from a corner to bring bottom side Metz level before half-time.

But the hosts, reduced to 10 men in added time when captain Dylan Bronn was sent off for a second yellow card for kicking the ball away, were unable to hold out for a hard-earned point as Hakimi finished from Neymar’s pass.

PSG were without Lionel Messi after he sustained a knee injury in Sunday’s win over Lyon.

Marco Asensio Bags Hat-Trick as Madrid Thrash Mallorca

Marco Asensio scored a superb hat-trick as Real Madrid reclaimed top spot in La Liga with an emphatic victory over Mallorca at the Bernabeu.

Asensio scored twice in five first-half minutes – either side of Lee Kang-in’s well-taken response for the visitors.

The Spaniard found the bottom corner to make it 4-1 10 minutes after half-time.

Karim Benzema had opened the scoring after three minutes and added a late fifth for Real, before Isco completed a 6-1 rout with six minutes remaining.

Atletico Madrid had moved top following a 2-1 win against Getafe on Tuesday and now sit two points behind Carlo Ancelotti’s side – with both teams unbeaten after six games.

Chelsea Beat Aston Villa on Penalties in EFL Cup Third Round

Reece James scored the winning penalty in a shootout as Chelsea reached the last 16 of the Carabao Cup at Aston Villa’s expenses.

The full-back fired home the Blues’ final penalty to win the shootout 4-3.

A goal from young Villa forward Cameron Archer had ensured a draw in normal time, levelling with a header after Timo Werner had put the Blues ahead.

Chelsea will host Southampton in the last 16 of a competition they last won in 2014-15.

Wednesday’s result extends the reigning European champions’ unbeaten start to the season, which has also seen them top the Premier League with 13 points from five matches.
