10-Man Barcelona Held at Lowly Cadiz

The pressure continued to grow on Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman after his side were held to a frustrating goalless draw at lowly Cadiz.

Frenkie de Jong’s red card saw the visitors play the last 25 minutes with 10 men, with Koeman dismissed in the dying seconds for dissent.

Barcelona now have just two wins from five La Liga matches as speculation mounts over Koeman’s future.

Memphis Depay went closest for Barca, miskicking from just yards out.

But it could have been worse for a visiting side lacking any creativity, as they needed goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to pull off several impressive saves late on.

Koeman was left furious after two harsh yellow cards for De Jong in four minutes after the break led to Cadiz creating numerous late chances to win the game, having defended deep for the majority.

Alvaro Negredo, Salvi Sanchez and Anthony Lozano were all denied by Ter Stegen, while at the other end Depay was guilty of squandering several good opportunities for a Barcelona side lacking in quality but full of fight.

The frustration got the better of Koeman in injury time as he was sent from the sidelines for arguing against a late booking for Sergio Busquets.

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu criticized his Counterpart in Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, Regarding his Comment on Anti-Open Grazing Law

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has criticized his counterpart in Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, over his comment on anti-open grazing law. El-Rufai had described the anti-open grazing laws being signed by some of the southern governors as unrealistic.

But Akeredolu, in a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, said such an utterance should not have come from a leader.

The statement was titled, ‘Anti-open grazing: El-Rufai’s attack on southern governors devious, a hysteric ploy to externalise banditry’.

Akeredolu reiterated that the anti-open grazing law shall be zealously guarded and conscionably deployed to protect all residents of Ondo State, notwithstanding their ethnic and religious biases.

The statement said from all indications, Governor Nasir El-Rufai, if he was properly quoted and his views not misrepresented, is struggling hard to export banditry to the South under an expressed opinion that is laced with mischief.

Professor Pat Utomi Denies Report Joining Others to Float New Political Party

Political economist Prof. Pat Utomi has debunked rumors that he, alongside other prominent Nigerians, are planning to announce the formation of a new political party on October 1.

Utomi has recently been linked in the media with a “third force,” called Rescue Nigeria Project to give the electorate an alternative platform to the ruling All Progressives Congress and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party.

Some founders of RNP include former Kwara Governor Ahmed Abdulfatai; former Minister of Education Prof. Tunde Adeniran; former Cross River Governor Donald Duke; and former House of Representatives member Usman Bugaje.

INEC was recently reported as saying that 95 groups have recently applied to be registered as political parties.

But Utomi, who spoke on the sidelines of a press conference announcing winners of the Year 2020 Zik Prize in Leadership Awards in Lagos, was hesitant to describe the movement as a political party.

He said the group and similar others were more interested in getting competent leaders into office, irrespective of the political party platform.

But the Secretary of the National Consultative Forum, Mr. Wale Okunniyi told Inspiration FM that Nigerians should not get confused about the Rescue Nigeria Project and the NCF.
