Lagos Declares Three Days Mourning as Governor Sanwoolu Inaugurates Panel of Inquiry for Collapsed Ikoyi Building

Lagos state Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has inaugurated the panel of inquiry to probe the immediate and remote causes of the collapsed Ikoyi building.

The Governor has also signed the executive order giving legal backing to the panel of inquiry which has thirty days to submit her report.

The panel members were sworn in at the Five Cowries Boat Terminal of the Lagos State Water Authority (LASWA) on Falomo Road, Ikoyi.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated that government is determined to unravel the intricacies surrounding the tragedy, and urged the panel
to work so that the hope and trust of residents can be restored.

Chairman of the panel, Toyin Ayinde, who promised to carry out the assignment diligently noted the exercise can only be different if everyone agrees to place value on human life.

Body of Owner of Ikoyi Collapsed 21-Storey Building, Femi Osibona Recovered

Four days after the 21-storey building on Gerrard Road in the eyebrow Ikoyi area of Lagos State collapsed, claiming the lives of no fewer than 38 persons, Femi Osibona, owner of Fourscore Homes, the company in charge of the doomed building has been found dead.

An official of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), who confirmed the development to Inspiration FM at the site, said rescue workers recovered Osibona’s body last night.

Several security operatives were on ground as the ministry of health conveyed the body of Osibona away from the site.

There is still no official figure of how many people were in the building when the tragic incident happened on Monday afternoon.

However, on Thursday evening, Governor Sanwo-Olu puts the death toll at 32.

Governor Sanwo-Olu Raises Hopes Of Rescue Of More Survivors Of Ikoyi Building Collapse

Two more bodies have been recovered from the rubble of the collapsed 21-storey building on Gerrard Road in the Ikoyi area of Lagos, taking the death toll to 21 while nine persons have so far been rescued.

This comes as Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who visited the site of the crash, said there was a clear violation of the provisions of the building law in Lagos State, promising that those behind the construction of the high-rise tower would face prosecution in the court of law.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who noted that a probe panel had been set up to determine what caused the building to crash, expressed optimism that more survivors would be found.

Sanwo-Olu later announced the name of survivors who are undergoing treatment at the Lagos Marina Hospital.

Abductors Of Uniabuja Professor, Five Other Persons Demand N300m Ransom

The kidnappers of a professor and five other persons who were abducted from the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) staff quarters have contacted their families to ask for the payment of a staggering N300m ransom.

A professor of economics, Obansa Joseph, two of his children, and three other persons were abducted on Tuesday when gunmen attacked the staff quarters of the university.

The gunmen were said to have asked for the payment of N50 million for each person abducted.

UNIABUJA spokesman, Habib Yakoob confirming this latest development.
