Police Van Loses Control, Kills Cop, Injures 8 Others In Ekiti

An unidentified police officer coming back from work has been knocked down on a motorcycle by a police van in Ekiti State.

Eight of the officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) also sustained serious injuries in the accident.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ekiti, ASP Sunday Abutu, said the accident occurred during a response to a distress call from the divisional police officer in Ikole Ekiti.

He said the van was one of the three vehicles deployed for reinforcement to arrest some cultists who had been terrorising the people of Ikole and its environs.

“Unfortunately, while on their way, one of the three patrol vehicles developed a mechanical fault, went off its lane and hit an oncoming motorcycle ridden by a policeman who had closed from work and was returning home.

“The policeman was rushed to the hospital for medical attention but was confirmed dead by a medical doctor while eight other RRS operatives in the patrol vehicle sustained different degrees of injury and are currently in the hospital receiving medical attention.”

The management of Next Cash and Carry has broken its silence over the Boxing Day fire incident, at its upscale shopping mall in the Jahi District of Abuja, calling for an extensive investigation into the matter.

General Manager of the mall, NEIL PAPE noted that the fire started at about 10.45 am on Sunday.

NEIL PAPE maintained that the store was built and operated according to international standards, adding that the roof was fireproof.

Ban on Telecom Services in Katsina to be Lifted in January

The Katsina State Government has announced that it will lift the ban on telecommunication services in the remaining seven affected Local Government Areas before January 2022.

The state governor, AMINU BELLO MASARI who disclosed this during a media parley with journalists in Katsina, urged residents to do their best to protect their areas from bandit attacks.

Recall that the state government recently lifted the ban on telecommunication services in 10 out of the 17 LGAs in the state which suffered from banditry. The government had imposed the ban to curtail the activities of bandits.

MASARI has said the state government will support those who plan to procure arms as residents need to complement the efforts of security agencies in the state.

Abductors Of Plateau Monarch Demand 500 Million Naira

The kidnappers who abducted the paramount ruler of Gindiri, Plateau state CHARLES MATO DAKOTA, are demanding fifty-million-naira ransom for his release.

It would be recalled that gunmen, suspected to be bandits terrorizing the Mangu local government area of Plateau State kidnapped the paramount ruler on Sunday and whisked him to an unknown destination.

The gunmen stormed the palace at precisely 12:45 am, overpowered the local security guards before gaining access to the inner building in the palace, where the traditional ruler was abducted at about 1:00 am.

A source close to the family said they are at the point of negotiation and the kidnappers have promised to get back to them.
