NDLEA Says Drug Cartel Was Working for Suspended DCP Abba Kyari

The embattled Deputy Commissioner of Police, ABBA KYARI has claimed that members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) are behind his travails.

According to a report obtained by Daily Trust, KYARI made this claim when he appeared before a probe panel led by JOSEPH EGBUNIKE, a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

In a report submitted by the panel to the Inspector-General of Police, USMAN BABA, which was in turn forwarded to the Police Service Commission, KYARI said the outlawed IPOB and its armed wing were after him due to the onslaught launched against them in the South East.

KYARI, who did not deny violating social media rules of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), was berated by the panel for the fact that the officer had been warned against the same practice previously.

But the panel, which faulted his claim, saying it is watery, ordered his demotion from the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police.

In another vein, KYARI and four others may spend more time in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency as the NDLEA has approached a Federal High Court in Abuja informing the court of its intention to detain the suspects beyond the stipulated 48 hours.

NNPC Says Toxic Petrol Not Imported Deliberately

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has said the recent importation of adulterated Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol, into the country was not deliberate.

It added that there was no way the importers would have known that the petrol contained methanol, as checking for the substance was not a primary requirement for the relevant bodies.

NNPC Group Managing Director (GMD), MELE KYARI, stated this during an interaction with the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee investigating the circumstances surrounding the importation of the adulterated fuel into the country.

KYARI stressed that the company was not aware of the presence of methanol in the imported fuel and has taken measures to manage the situation.

He explained that the loading terminal from where the toxic petrol was brought into the country has been supplying gasoline for a very long time, as it was a major terminal supplying fuel not only to West Africa but many countries in Europe.
