HURIWA flays Buhari over refusal to sign electoral bill

Civil rights advocacy group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria has expressed worry over the refusal of President MUHAMMADU BUHARI in signing the reworked Electoral Act Amendment Bill.

HURIWA, in a statement by its National Coordinator, EMMANUEL ONWUBIKO, said the President’s intentions are not nationalistic and patriotic but self-serving.

The group, while condemning the President for globetrotting when a critical task lay at his table, said BUHARI’s refusal to sign the Electoral Act is a calculated attempt to undermine and sabotage the transparent conduct of the 2023 general election.

Recall that a coalition of 26 Civil Society groups also demanded President MUHAMMADU BUHARI’s assent to the Bill, saying they will stage a protest on Tuesday, 22nd of February, 2022, at the Unity Fountain in FCT, Abuja, if the President fails to sign the bill in two days.

Speaking to Inspiration FM, constitutional lawyer, Barrister MONDAY UBANI believes that the CSO’s have a reason to be concerned.
