Medvedev Misses Out On Number One Ranking After Miami Defeat

Russia's Daniil Medvedev missed out on a chance to return to the top of the world rankings as he lost to Poland's Hubert Hurkacz at the Miami Open.

Medvedev, 26, needed to reach the semi-finals to overtake Novak Djokovic, but lost 7-6 (9-7) 6-3 to eighth seed Hurkacz in Thursday's quarter-final.

Medvedev trailed 5-2 in the first set, fought back to 5-5 but then lost the tie-break 9-7.

Hurkacz sealed success with breaks in the fifth and ninth games of set two.

The 25-year-old Hurkacz, who beat Roger Federer in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon last summer, will now play either Spain's 14th seed Carlos Alcaraz or Serbia's unseeded Miomir Kecmanovic.

In February, Medvedev became only the 27th player to top the ATP Tour world rankings, although he only stayed there for three weeks before Djokovic regained the position.

Serbian Djokovic has only played in one ATP Tour event in 2022 - the Dubai Tennis Championships when he lost in the quarter-finals - as a result of his refusal to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

That saw him unable to compete in the Australian Open as well as the Indian Wells and Miami Open tournaments in the United States.

Sadio Mane Scored The Winning Penalty To Send Senegal To Qatar 2022 At The Expense Of Mohammed Salah’s Egypt

Sadio Mane slotted home the winning penalty in a shootout to send Senegal to the 2022 World Cup after Liverpool team-mate Mohamed Salah missed his spot-kick for Egypt.

In a repeat of the Africa Cup of Nations final, Senegal were left the 'happier' side at the final whistle after winning the game on penalties, with Egypt's players disappointed and Salah - one of the world's best players - left contemplating his absence from November's tournament in Qatar.

The second leg of the play-off tie in Senegal's new 50,000-seater stadium finished 1-0 to the hosts and 1-1 on aggregate after extra time, sending the game to a tense and dramatic shootout.

Mane had previously scored the penalty which won the Nations Cup and the Reds forward didn't fail to net the decisive spot-kick once again after keeper Edouard Mendy had given Senegal an advantage by saving from Mostafa Mohamed at 2-1.

Egypt captain Salah was one of four players to miss the first four penalties of a shootout marked by a vast number of green laser pointers aimed at the visiting players and goalkeeper from the home supporters.

Senegal's Boulaye Dia was the scorer of the only goal in normal time – claiming the first goal after just four minutes with a shot that hit the body of Pharaohs defender Hamdi Fathi.

Elsewhere in Africa's World Cup play-offs, Ghana, Tunisia, Morocco and Cameroon also clinched qualification - with Nigeria, Mali, DR Congo and Algeria all eliminated.

Things To Know About Alopecia Areata

The Will Smith saga has been trending online for a while now and some might not really understand what inspired Smith's actions.

Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Smith's condition but it did not sit well with the couple hence the reaction, SLAP!

Here is what you need to know about Jada's condition. It is called Alopecia Areata, Alopecia means hair loss.

Alopecia areata is a skin condition that causes hair loss. Suddenly, a person notices that there are bald patches on their hair and in some cases in other parts of their body.

It is caused by white blood cells attacking hair follicles and reducing the rate at which hair is produced. There is no scientific reason why this happens.

However, alopecia is a genetic disease. 20% of people who have alopecia do because a family member had it.

Statistically, 1 out of 50 people will experience alopecia or hair loss and it occurs among men and women equally.

Alopecia can happen at any age, but most people experience it at the age of 30.

It is not deadly or life-threatening and does not cause physical pain. The only effect it might have might be psychological as many people equate hair with beauty.

In case a person experiences loss of hair in their nose or eyelashes, it might make them more susceptible to eye and nose irritation.

Losing your hair might be devastating, but you can still look good bald or resort to wearing a wig. There is no cure for alopecia, but certain things can stimulate hair growth like anti-inflammatory drugs that suppress the immune system. They may be in the form of injections, ointment to be applied topically, drugs like Minoxidil and Anthralin.

So, when the topic about Smith' s reaction and Jada's condition comes up, you definitely know how to respond thoughtfully.
