The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that though the APC presidential primary election is slated for June 6 to 8, delegates will vote for their preferred aspirants on June 7.

Meanwhile, delegates have started arriving Abuja ahead of the exercise as the party’s national secretariat, located on Blantyre Street in Wuse 2, has become a beehive of activities.

Finishing touches are also being put together at the Eagle Square, venue of the convention, as decorations are currently ongoing, both at the presidential stage and the various bleachers.

Works on the podium are also ongoing at the time of this report.

Investigation by NAN revealed that most hotels in Abuja had been fully booked ahead of time, while security operatives were seen around the Eagle Square keeping surveillance.

No fewer than 2,340 delegates from the 774 Local Government Areas in the country and Area Councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are expected to cast thier votes to elect the APC’s 2023 presidential candidate.

Though, 23 presidential aspirants bought the party’s presidential Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to contest the presidency, 13 were cleared by the John Odigie-Oyegun presidential screening committee.

President Muhammadu Buhari, at a dinner with the party’s presidential aspirants on Saturday, backed the rotation of power to the Southern part of the country in 2023.

This limited the numbers of aspirants that would be contesting the party’s 2023 presidential ticket at the primary to those from the South.

NAN also reports that 11 governors from the North had in a statement on Saturday, announced their decision to support power shift to the South after the end of the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The governors, while urging presidential aspirants from the northern part to step down from the 2023 presidential race, said, ”the decision to support power shift to the South is in the best interest of the country”.

As political pamutations and calculations continued ahead of the primary election, it is expected that the number of the party’s presidential aspirants would be further brought down.

Sex-For-Grades: Uniabuja Dismisses 2 Professors

Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na-Allah, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, said the university has taken a harsh stance against teachers who sexually harass students, citing the dismissal of two professors.

Na’Allah told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in New York that the university had introduced a policy on sex abuse on campus, which had been published.

Na-Allah, who was on a two–day visit to the U.S., to meet with the University of Abuja Alumni Association, USA chapter, to solicit support for the institution, said, ”female students needed to be protected.”

According to him, the institution is committed to high moral standards and will not tolerate any act of misconduct perpetrated by its staff against students.

“I have dismissed two professors since I became the vice- chancellor. It tells you how we are serious about the issue of sexual harassment.

“We are collaborating with some Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), to make sure that it is not only us that are addressing this issue, but we have a strong partnership.

“We cannot allow the lives of our students to be destroyed, because most of the abuses destroy the lives of their victims.’’

The vice-chancellor said: ”it was sad to see some lecturers, who are supposed to be protecting the female students, becoming one of their problems.

“This a problem of universities in Nigeria, not only University of Abuja alone.

“But UniAbuja is pursuing it with vigour, because, we know this is one of the issues to address to make our university one of the best in Nigeria.

“As I speak now, there are several investigations ongoing by a committee set up, addressing the problem,’’ he told NAN.

The VC said that the university was working round the clock to make sure the institution become number one in Nigeria, adding that ”the best way is to improve on academics of the student.

“We are trying to provide all the facilities that the students need, for instance, the smart classrooms, internet facilities on campus and other areas.’’

Na-Allah further said that the Centre for Distance Learning (CDL), in the university was among the best in Nigeria, adding that Nigerians in diaspora could take programmes anywhere in the world from the centre virtually.

“People from everywhere in the world are students from first degree up to PhD level at the CDL. Things are easier now; you can even do your defense on zoom.

“We have created a virtual classroom system and we are working with the National University Commission (NUC), to see that its policies are reversed in such a way to support virtual system.

“We are collaborating with the University of Arizona, U.S, because it has a large virtual system and we are exploring relationship for online programmes with the university,’’ he said.

The University of Abuja is a tertiary institution in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, established in January 1988, as a dual-mode University, with the mandate to run conventional and distance learning programmes.

Bola Tinubu Insists He Is Going To Succeed President Buhari; Says He Made Him Win In 2015

The battle line seems to have been drawn ahead of the presidential primaries of the All Progressives Congress as presidential aspirant, Bola Tinubu has insisted that it is his turn to occupy the country’s number one seat.

The APC National Leader at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, while addressing APC delegates.

Speaking in Yoruba, Tinubu said he is done serving the interest of his political associates while narrating  how he was instrumental to the electoral victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 general election.

He also shared publicly for the first time, how he nominated Professor Yemi Osinbajo as Buhari’s running mate after a campaign of calumny was allegedly launched against him by the former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Tinubu, who was in company of Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his Kano counterpart, Umar Ganduje, and former Borno State governor, Kashim Shettima, reminded the delegates how President Buhari lost elections on three occasions and vowed not to contest again after weeping on national television, adding that he was the one who convinced him to contest again and that he will support him to victory.

In his words, he said “Since he became the President, I have never got ministerial slots; I didn’t collect any contract, I have never begged for anything from him, it is the turn of Yoruba, it is my turn.”

Speaking about PDP’s presidential candidate, Tinubu said when Atiku was being flogged out of the PDP by Obasanjo, he ran to me for help. I let him have the ticket. Nuhu Ribadu came to me and I backed him.

Referring to Ogun state Governor, Dapo Abiodun in his remarks, Tinubu said, “This one sitting behind me here, could not have become governor without me? We were at the stadium; they tore all his posters. Even the party flag, they didn’t want to hand over it to him, I was the one who brought it.

Responding, Governor Abiodun said he hoped Tinubu would get his heart’s desire.

In an interview with Inspiration FM, Aare Osi Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Ganiu Kayode-Balogun said the supposed revelations are not new.
