PVC: Bala Mohammed Declares Monday Work Free Day

In order to allow his constituents to participate in the current continuous voter registration, and get their Permanent Voter Cards, PVC, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed proclaimed Monday a day off from work.

This information may be found in a statement made by Mr. Mukhtar Gidado, the governor's special assistant for media and publicity.

Gidado noted that the state employees' day off from work was intended to allow them to travel to their individual communities to register to vote and acquire their Permanent Voter Cards, PVC.

Mohammed was concerned about the low voter turnout among eligible voters.

”By this, all Commissioners, Special Advisers, Permanent Secretaries, and other top government functionaries are directed to proceed to their respective electoral wards to mobilise eligible registrants to come out en-mass and register.

The continuing continuous voter registration (CVR) effort will now go an additional 60 days, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The initial registration date set by INEC was June 30.

INEC was prevented from concluding the process on Monday by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Following the hearing of a motion ex parte by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon of Court 10 issued an order of temporary injunction (SERAP).

NDLEA Arrests 218 Suspects, Seizes 1,471kg Drugs In Imo

Ahead of the 2022 World International Anti-Drug Day, the Imo State Command of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA NDLEA arrests 218 Suspects comprising 171 males and 47 females, adding that 1,471.314kg of drugs were seized between July 2021 and June 2022.

Speaking on Thursday during the instance of the year 2022 International Day against Drug Abuse and illicit drugs trafficking, tagged, “Addressing the Drug Challenges in Health and Humanitarian Crises,” the Imo State NDLEA Commandant, Mr. Reuben Apeh, stated that many of the arrested suspects were arraigned and convicted for drug-related offences at the Federal High Court.

He said, “Within the period covered, 51 were convicted and 145 were charged and their cases are still ongoing”.

Apeh stated that the drug situation in Imo was worrisome as he said that women had joined the drug trade to make ends to their financial crises.

He further said that 1,458.49kg of cannabis sativa, 10,513kg of cocaine, 0.2077kg of heroin, 3.896kg of methamphetamine, and 3.184kg of tramadol were exhibited seized from arrested 218 Suspects during the period under review by NDLEA.

Apeh, however, said that cannabis farm in hectares was also destroyed in Imo just as he added that 0.5278kg of Rohypnol and 2.5135kg of diazepam were also among the seized exhibits.

He regretted that activity of the drug peddlers had been alarming in the state among the younger segment of the state population.

He called on the stakeholders to partner with the NDLEA to sensitize society on the dangers of drug abuse.

IPPIS Eliminates 70000 ‘Ghost’ Workers, Saves Govt N220bn

The Federal Government-backed Integration Personnel and Payroll Information System has, so far, exposed and eliminated about 70,000 ghost workers in the civil service system, the Director-General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dr Dasuki Arabi, revealed on Thursday.

The Federal Government says it has so far saved about N10 trillion in the years that the Single Treasury Account (TSA) has been in operation.

The Director-General, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dr Dasuki Arabi, stated this while appearing at the 43rd Session of the ministerial media briefing organized by the Presidential Media Team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Arabi said, “With the introduction of IPPIS, about 70,000 ghost workers have been eliminated from the payroll. We have a one-shot opportunity to look at IPPIS and say, as of today, we have 720,000 public servants working for Nigeria.

He gave key updates on the performance of the Bureau in the execution of its core mandate particularly in ensuring the full implementation of reform policies and programmes for the government.

He also talked about the gains of the introduction of the Integration Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).

Christopher Nkunku Agrees Contract Extension With Leipzig

RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku has signed a two-year contract extension which will run until 2026 with the German club.

The 24-year-old had been linked with a number of clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester United, but has opted to commit to the Bundesliga side.

Nkunku was voted the 2021-22 Bundesliga player of the season and helped Leipzig win the German Cup in May.

"I am pleased to continue wearing the RB Leipzig shirt," he said.

"After our great achievement in winning the DFB-Pokal (German Cup), it remained clear that my story here isn't over yet - we want more.

"I was really impressed with the club's efforts to keep me."

Christopher Nkunku scored 20 goals and registered 14 assists in 34 league games as he helped RB Leipzig finish fourth in the German top-flight last season.

He added: "RB Leipzig have made a name for themselves on the international stage in recent years and have shown time and again that we can compete for titles.

"We want to build on that going forward and go one step further."

However, according to reports from Germany, he already has a price attached to him.

There are rumors that his new contract with Leipzig has a €65 million (£56 million/$68 million) release clause that may be exercised during the summer 2023 transfer window.
